Brand of SSD Drives?

Does anyone know what brand of SSD drives Apple is using in the new MacBooks?

17" i7 Quad-Core MacBook Pro • 256 SSD • 8 RAM, Mac OS X (10.6.6), iPhone 4 • My Web App URL: dave.merten.mobi

I would like to know this as well, esp for the 512GB model. The price is inexpensive compared to drives that you can purchase from e-tailers.

Just got my made to order Macbook Pro 15" 2.2Ghz HRS w/128GB SSD

I know some peeps were wondering which SSD Apple is putting in the new models, so I figured I would find out.

Toshiba THNSN128GBSJ

So far the HDD seems super speedy, boot up is about 18.5 secs on my second boot up.

This - who is interested in the BTO SSDs for MBP 2011 - everybody was waiting for.

The Toshiba product number indicates HG3 (32nm) series.

Its not the best, but it should last. I own the 160G Intel which is better in reading, but worse in writing.

Anybody who has a new 256GB SSD inside - whats it labeled ???

Any experiences in using 3rd party SSD already in MBP 2011

The label posted before http://i56.tinypic.com/10o4mty.jpg seems to have a bug ;-))

Its mentioned THNSNC128GBSJ in the top, but if you look into the middle below the Logos you´ll find TSD-THNSNC256GBSJ(B)

Jesus that's good to know.. Now i will buy the standard and purchase a OCW Vertex3, save money, and have a spare HD. Toshiba.. for that price?? No thanks amigo.

Anyone interested in OCZ's products should first have a look at their user support forum first. I had planned on purchasing an OCZ SSD, but after getting unsatisfactory support through their forums for another product of theirs (Memory) and looking at the support they offered to users of their SSD's, I chose to get an Intel SSD instead. I've owned that Intel SSD for over a year now, and I have no complaints.

Hi there, am I missing somethingguys, or is there a difference in different countries - Apple look to be asking GBP 400 for a 256 Gb SSD at purchase time. After a bit of looking round I've only found aftermarket 256 Gb SSD's at about GBP 370 (plus shipping costs). GBP 30 minus shipping costs doesn't look like a lot of a saving .... is there something else to take into consideration? TIA - Terry.

Don't the SSD drives that come from Apple have some sort of TRIM support in hardware?

Isn't this a concern with using 3rd party SSD drives until such time OS X supports TRIM?

If you buy one of the new 2011 MBPs, then from what I've read at AI, http://www.appleinsider.com/articles/11/03/04/applesmacbook_pros_ship_with_active_ssd_trim_support_in_snowleopard.html, TRIM is enabled. Caveat - The feature reportedly only supports Apple-bundled SSD volumes, but this may change as well.

The 2011 MBPs do support TRIM for APPLE issued drives. They don't have TRIM for non-Apple supplied 3rd party units.

It's odd but that is in fact how the label reads -- I just opened up a new MBP 15" and can confirm the same label on a 128 GB SSD.
