Mini DisplayPort -> VGA and MBP 2011 not working

Hi,

I can't get my 13" mbp 2011 to connect to VGA screens. I've bought a mini DisplayPort to VGA converter (an Apple one, not a no name) and if I connect a display over VGA the screen stays black. My mbp recognizes the display, I can see the display's model, resolution etc but no signal. I've tried multiple screens, none work.

I don't have other converters so I can't test if HDMI screens for example do work.

Anyone else having this problem?

I have the same issue and just bought mine (15" MPB 2011) today but using an HDMI adapter instead. Looking around I've discovered this is an ongoing issue. Something that has yet to be fixed for months now because of the updates or something to do with Intel. No one seems to be sure yet. Can't say I'm too happy about this might return tomorrow since my primary use for my laptop is to use it as a TV since I don't have cable.

So I managed to fix mine and the sound issue. All I did was update everything! Including flash (not that, that was the reason but who knows) As for not having any sound you have to manual change it over every time you plug in to a TV. Go to system preferences>sound>click output tab>click on your TV or whatever output component you are using and Ta-DA. You'll have to do the same thing to change it back to your computers sound. Good luck everyone! (oh and I'm using a Dynex mini display port to hdmi adapter)

There are several updates that aren't a full OS update you should download. Also, my cable was 2009/2010. You shouldn't have to manually change output to the TV though. You should be able to set it up in system prefs>display. You can set resolution, mirror displays or create a second desktop, etc. If it isn't finding your TV try hitting Detect Displays. It could be a weird incompatibility or driver issue though, I have had other issues with external displays, mine freezes when doing something graphics intensive in fullscreen on an external monitor.

I have a 2011 13" i7 and am having the same issue when connecting it to my LG TV through the HDMI adapter. However when I connect it to my HP external monitor it works but it's VERY blurry... so blurry that it hurts the eyes to look at it for more than a few mins.
My previous MBP (2010 13") works fine however with both the TV and monitor. I even reconnected it just to make sure and they both work flawlessly.
I only have 14 days total to return this new MBP and 5 of those days are used up so if I can't get this fixed by then I have no choice but to return it and go back to my old MBP.
