Carefully consider "Getting Started with Aperture"

"An Introduction to Revolutionary Post-Production" by Estelle McGechie. $35.00, includes not a single bit of supplemental material. Refers totally to sample files you received with the application.

This is NOT a brainless reprint of the disturbingly shallow booklet that comes with the Aperture application. That's not to say it's much better. It might even be considered a ripoff. The helpful and solid information contained in this short book should have been included with the application in the form of a typically thorough Apple-styled manual.

There are only 200 scant pages. The pages are mostly white space. They have very little to say and it is said in very large print. The illustrations are very big and very clear. The copy is very concise and typically very Apple-ish.

I cannot recommend that anyone buy this book without first taking a careful look, hold it in your hands. One slim chapter's contents might just make it worth buying. However, the other seven chapters and sparse index might just make you angry. Your karma.

The information in the book is solid. We should not be forced to pay for this information.

I saw a seminar today and I believe she was the presenter. She did not appear to know the product very well. Many of my questions were answered with "I think so but I'm not sure - I haven't had a chance to play with that yet" or "I don't think so, but I can check."

The idea that we should have to buy a manual for a $500 app is offensive enough, but if it doesn't contain useful detail, that's just inexcusable.
