2011 Macbook Pro Hard Drive noise.

Hi all.
Just bought a new Macbook Pro and started to make some Hard Drive noise. Like is working (write/read data).
Especially if you open some softwares, like CS5, Nero,...

I have a old 2009 Macbook Pro and never have this kind of sound (or is not so strong). Is very quiet.
My wife have a 13' Macbook Pro and the noise/sound is very low. But with the new 2011 is more prominent.

This is normal? Something to do with the new processors?

Anyone have the same experience?

Thanks

Mac OS X (10.6.6)

I had mine replaced. New one: same noise. I have the buzzing noise coming from the right bottom and also the disc writing noise like in the video posted here.

Exec customer service called Apple engineers for me about it and they told me that this is the case because the 13" i7 has a bigger, faster HDD and processor but little room for it. They said this one is gonna be noisier than the 2010 models or baseline model. But they said not to worry.

Still, i might get a different HDD just to try. Now I have to put music on and my headphones in all the time so I won't get annoyed 😟

Sorry guys, but I do have a Toshiba and I have those problems as well : the metallic sound (not that often, but I do hear it nonetheless) and the constant background noise (like a fan noise that goes away immediately when I unmount the drive and use only the SSD drive).

I ordered a new HD from OWC, a blue 750 Gb Western Digital. I'll let you know it its more quiet, but I sure hope so ! 🙂

I'm on my second 13" i7. The first, which had to be returned for an issue Apple engineering wanted to investigate (not mentioned by anyone else on these forums) had an Hitachi drive which was inaudible.
The new machine had the Toshiba drive and whenever the machine was on it sounded like a faint scraping sound was coming from inside. The drive checked out in all the tests I did on it and performed well but I had intended to upgrade to a 7200 rpm drive anyway. I installed an Hitachi and the machine is inaudible again, but the scraping noise is still coming from the toshiba drive which is now in an external OWC enclosure. I really don't think anything is wrong with the Toshiba drives, they just all seem to make this noise. I think it would really help if anyone posting in this thread would list which drive they have to make sure there isn't more than one "problem" going on here (as I said I don't think the Toshiba is a problem and in fact am using it as my backup drive although I admit it is the kind of noise that sounds like something is wrong).

i had a 15" macbook pro. after 2 weeks of use i noticed the sound coming from the hard drive location but it was rare. the other day i was working when the computer just froze. when i tried to restart it nothing happened except a terribly loud spinning/scratching sound coming from the hard drive. when i brought it in to the genius bar they told me the hard drive failed and they'd replace the computer.

i am so disappointed in this. i've been a mac user for years and never had any issues. after 3 weeks with a brand new computer i find myself waiting around for a replacement and loss of one days worth of hard work--no chance of my hard drive being recovered.

i hope this does not happen to any of you who are hearing that terrible noise.
