Wireless Print Server

Folks

I like the idea of using a wireless print server to print to my usb inkjet printer.

I have a wireless network I use with my Powerbook in the UK, I use a netgear DG834GT wireless router modem.

Whats the best wireless print server I should buy for Mac in the UK ?

if you get airport express then youll have the following benefits:

USB connection for a wireless printer
AIRTUNES to connect to your stereo/music centre for broadcasting
AIRPORT extension to get more range out of the device

that would be my suggestion, its cheaper than most other options too and more functional

try some auction sites as you may be able to get one cheaply (i paif £47 for mine)

So I did get it to work, at least print. The mac does not use the same program provided by Linksys as the Pc, which is nice. I read some more from this and from others. I set it up as a LDP printer, got the ip address from the print server (hold the reset button (icywtk) and it shot out the printer just like that). All the computers in the house are now running with security and can print to the HP printer -- 4100, which seems to natively support apple printing. I cannot get the wireless to work still. The only way it prints is with the cat lan cable connecting the router and the print server, thus I connect to the router wirelessly and then to the print server with the cable. The strange thing about that is that if you set the IP to static, save the settings to the firmware, and then unplug the print server and restart it without the lan cable the wireless network comes on. However even if you ping the servers fixed IP you get nouthing.

The only caveat about Airport Extreme/Express is that not all printers will work with wireless printing, and Apple no longer maintains an up-to-date list of compatible printers. However, there is the excellent iFelix unofficial Airport Extreme & Airport Express printer compatibility list at

http://www.ifelix.co.uk/tech/1013.html

If the printer in question is on it, it'll probably work fine.

Does Airport Express work with any wireless
modem/router ? I'm using a Netgear DG834GT and I
want to make my USB printer wireless.

Would the airport express work without airport
extreme ?

The Airport Express can't be used as a repeater for a third-party wireless router, but you won't need to, because it's a fully featured wireless router in its own right, and works perfectly well on its own. Just exchange the Netgear for the Airport Express, and you should be able to enjoy wireless printing. Just make sure the printer is compatible (i.e. on the iFelix list), and you should be fine.
