Conficker virus
iMac intel, Mac OS X (10.5.8)
I'm getting the same email from my internet provider, CenturyLink, regarding the Confiker virus.
I don't have boot camp or parallel installed, nor has any Windows on any of our Mac products: two 2011 iMacs, 2011 MacBook Air, 2007 MacBook, and a 2015 MacBook Pro.
We also have iPhone 7+, 6s+, and 5s.
We have a Samsung tablet provided by work, but it has its own internet service provided by Verizon, paid by work.
We haven't installed any Mac Anti-Virus and is thinking of doing that now.
Any update on this, or how to resolve it?
If you are thinking of installing an anti virus for Mac ... stop thinking, don't do it.
Macs have no need for an anti virus but if you are worries about something, download, read and apply this program. Publish the result as a reply to this post and we will try to help.
Qwsest is trying to provide you with a pay-for service you do not need, at least on your Apple products you don't.
They are either identifying a problem with a windows computer on your network, generating a false positive on your Apple devices, or they are outright trying to scam you in the hopes you cave and pay them. In either case if you do not have a Windows device with up-to-date anti-vrus you can ignore this message or contact them for an explanation as to why they are making this claim.
If you really want to put the fear of Great Atheismo in them I would suggest contacting the FBI Computer Fraud division beforehand and let them know you have spoken to an agent about this claim they are making.
Also, as stated DO NOT install 3rd party Mac AV products, they have been cited with causing massive problems and also not able to detect the most basic of adware/malware, or have any of them yet to be faced with an actual Mac virus as none exist at this time which have been reported by any credible computer securities lab in the world.
