S.M.A.R.T unsupported

This Mac Mini, and external HD's are all S.M.A.R.T unsupported.
In one post someone asking about their HD was told that meant trouble. But on this early version of the Mini there has never been SMART support.
Is that a problem? An additional Mini has been acquired, same 2005 vintage with 10.5.6 which is SMART - however I choose to delete Leopard and initialize the HD for Tiger.
So, is that a problem

External Drives, especially USB or Firewire will NOT have S.M.A.R.T. support, that's not really a problem.

Internal drives will depend on the vintage of the Drive as to whether it supports it or not.

SMART support normally refers to the drive itself. External drives themselves may support SMART but not when in an external enclosure. Old drives may not have SMART support, but I have an 8 year old drive in this computer and it supports SMART. SMART is part of the drive itself so it isn't something affected by you installing a system.

You have to worry when SMART reports the drive has not passed, not when it is unsupported.
