IPhone duplicates email account

Hi,

My IPhone keeps duplicating email accounts since last week.
I normally have 7 email accounts (5 googles IMAP, 1 institutional POP and 1 hotmail).
It started last week when I now I had 8 account, one being the exact copy of a already existing account (a google one). When I was receiving a new email, both account would automatically show the new email.
I restored the IPhone from ITunes, and it came back to the normal situation.
Then three hours after restore, I had 12 email accounts. All the google IMAP were duplicating. And now my IPhone gives me an error message saying that one of the google account does not have the proper user name or password (when it does, I re-entered it without succes).

I searched on this forum and on google and did not find anything about this problem.

Any one had a similar problem before?

I just noticed this problem on my iPhone. I'm not sure when it started. I too would like to know the cause and cure.

Do you have Sync Email Accounts selected under the Info tab for your iPhone sync preferences? If so, this transfers email account settings for selected accounts from your computer to your iPhone and only needs to be done once. This does not resolve why this occurred which I haven't seen posted here often, but this does not need to remain selected. If selected, deselect this followed by selecting Apply.

Hmm. Thanks. I recently up graded iOS on the iPhone. I wonder if that triggered it? I also upgraded from Leopard to Snow Leopard a month + ago. It's possible it happend then and I didn't notice until now.

I have the same problem. I only noticed today. My iPhone 4 is duplicating email accounts. I tried ticking the box in iTunes to overwrite the email accounts on my iPhone. That did not fix it. I also tried a full reset of my iPhone. Again no luck.

I have exactly the same problem! Even the email account that won't accept the correct password! iTunes syncs my email accounts with Outlook 2010 on a Windows 7 64-bit pc across to my new iPhone 4S and all except a new email account and the iCloud account have duplicates. I have reinstalled iTunes and deleted and re-added my mail accounts in outlook, all to no avail.

I have no idea what the problems is and am fairly disappointed about this. If anyone has any information please assist.

I've now given up on syncing email accounts with Outlook and I've just manually set them all up. Only one of each account now. Apple-Microsoft just doesn't seem to work well....😝

I just solved this issue myself - just got a new iPhone 5 and when I synced it with iTunes, all my email accounts were duplicated. I solved it by going to settings->Mail->, and I deleted all my email accounts. Then I connected my phone to my computer - In itunes, I went to the 'info tab' which allows you to configure your sync settings - i ticked the "Mail Accounts" box under 'Advanced', 'Replace the information on this iPhone". I then Synced, and the problem was fixed. The accounts reappeard on my iPhone and weren't dupicated - Hope this helps;-)
