How to disable Front Row

Can anyone PLEASE tell me how to disable Front Row? I'm sure it's great if you use it, but I don't. To me this program is basically a major nuisance. Every time I want to watch something on my ATV remote (and even my logitech one), Front Row decides to come on my laptop. It's a HUGE pain, and the only "real" work-around I've come up with (without getting up) is to close the screen on my MacBook - but that doesn't help sometimes.

I don't use this program at all and would happily delete it - except I've read on other posts that even deleting the program doesn't fully disable it.

If anyone knows how to disable this program, I'd greatly appreciate it!

I am having exactly the same problem with Mac OS X 10.6.6 too. Would love to know how to disable Front Row and/or the remote.

OK, found the answer in another thread:

Go to System Preferences > Security

On the "General" tab, the last option should say "Disable remote control infrared receiver." Check that, and the remote won't trigger Front Row any more (this is on Leopard, 10.5.2). If you use other infrared devices to operate you Mac, then this won't work for you, but it is a simple solution to eliminate the remote conflict between two Apple devices running Front Row.

that would be fine if I didn't use the remote to control other apps (pianopub). I have disabled the keyboard shortcut so I stop accidentally triggering FrontRow from the keyboard, but really just want it off my Mac.

I remember seeing this issue when looking at the xbmc forum, where the apple remore was controlling both Frontrow and XBMC on the same Mac.

I beleive they had a solution, but can't remember what it was offhand. Please go to their forum if noone can help you here

deleting the application is ultimately what I decided to do, however, I not only had to delete the launcher app from /Applications, I also had to delete the full app from /System/Library/CoreServices. My Mac still goes to sleep whenever I put my AppleTV to sleep though, which is annoying since I'm usually switching from watching the AppleTV to using the Mac. at least most of the issue is solved.

Hi

You don't need to lose Front Row, you just need to 'pair' the remote with a specific device.

http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1555 tells you how to pair the remote to a specific Apple TV; http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1619 tells you how to pair the remote to a specific Mac;

and http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4154 tells you how to pair the remote to a specific univeral iPod dock.
