Mono sound – how?

Yeah, how do I switch to mono output? I don't want to use plugins nor extra hardware.

Macbook Pro 2.26GHz, Mac OS X (10.5.8)

There is no switch to mono output. Why do you need it?

Got these new sucky speakers… Ok, so how do I do it with a plugin, and how come OS X doesn't support such a standard function? What about people with one bad ear?

I'm not sure I get the point. Use a fairly common adaptor with a stereo plug on one end for the computer and a mono jack on the other end. The adaptor simply combines the two stereo channels into one. Should find them at most any decent electronics outlet.

As the page linked to by Limnos does not include the Monomaker download, here is one that does:

http://destroyfx.smartelectronix.com/extras/

Scroll down to Monomaker and click on the Apple logo to download the Mac OS X version.

That plugin, Monomaker, doesn't work on my OS X 10.5.8. Any other ideas?

Hi:

I'm deaf in one ear as a result of surgery, and I listen to a lot of music on headphones at work; hearing stereo recordings in mono *****, because you lose half of the instrumentation (try it with anything recorded before the 70s, like the Beatles!).

To solve this..

1- system preferences

2- accessibility

3- audio

4- select play stereo as mono

You're good to go!

There is no such preference in Leopard
