While your intentions may be good, I and anyone else should not consider you acting for the majority of peiople.
Your observation is noted
Your observation on behalf of othewr is not -
Mar 23, 2011 4:06 AM in response to oogieby Phil3345,If your talking about me I think its fair to say that anyone thinking of buying a Macbook pro would appreciate the question I raised and any response that was given.I ask the question so I can clarify whether the update worked or not.I know the forums are filled with "Trolls" who have nothing better to do than cause mischief but I can just about tell the difference between a genuine answer and a Troll.
So your previous post was unnecessary as my first post on here was for advice and not to cause mischief -
Mar 23, 2011 4:32 AM in response to Phil3345by iamjohnsname,10.6.7 appears to have fixed the problem for me.
I have not had a freeze since updating.
That said, I have not tried any specific test other than to run the same programs that were causing the freeze beforehand (Cineform ReMaster, Handbrake, Mpeg StreamClip). They have all completed the heavy rendering tasks today without trouble that on 10.6.6 they froze during.
As for temperatures, my CPU temps are still higher than 95C when rendering. I was hoping that 10.6.7 might have a positive impact on this as well but apparently not. -

When you charge the cost of a covered product with your American Express® Card, the Extended Warranty1 will extend the terms of the original manufacturer's warranty for a period of time equal to the duration of the original manufacturer's warranty, up to one additional year on warranties of five years or less that are eligible in the U.S.
I've never used this, but I've heard good things about it from those who have. -
Mar 23, 2011 6:09 AM in response to Rensoomby yuvaloni,i am about to get my MBP 15" which is my first mac soon
i have some bad experience with windows 7
i had a lenovo tablet who caused problems every time i turned it on
and for the last month i used it has done a hard reset to itself automatically every time i turned it on and in the last two weeks of this time period it had the blue screen problem
so the main reason i am moving to mac is because i know it won't cause any problems
i am using atodesk maya 2011 and i want to be sure that it will work well and won't cause any problems.
so did the 10.6.7 update fix the problem?
and if you know how please tell me. -
Mar 23, 2011 6:43 AM in response to soultyby VTGolfer,Your problem is a known issue with OWC SSD. It's documented on the OWC site. They claim to have released a firmware update yesterday that fixed the problem, but SSDs are not shipping with the new firmware. Now here's the kicker, you need a windows machine (not virtual machine, physical machine) to install their new "fixed" firmware. As you just installed this, I'd pull it and send it back and tell them you won't want another until it comes with 4.0 fixed.
There is a HUGE thread about this OWC issue on macrumors. -
Mar 23, 2011 7:02 AM in response to VTGolferby fasty,I just unboxed my new 2.2GHz 15" MBP with high res screen and did the Photobooth + 8 yes test and there wasn't a single hitch in a 5 mins of use. CPU temps levelled at 85*C -

Yes.
10.6.7 has absolutely fixed the problem that this thread is talking about. -

Have you received your replacement machine? -
Mar 23, 2011 7:24 AM in response to VTGolferby John Harrold,@VTGolfer
It's supposed to be delivered today. I cannot believe OWC did that with the firmware on their SSD drives. I've have really good experiences with them in the past, it's just surprising they would require you to have a windows box to update them. -
Mar 23, 2011 7:54 AM in response to VTGolferby Sir Atilla,This is actually not true you don't need a windows physical machine. I have the same machine configuration as the original poster and was able to update my firmware using a Windows bootcamp partition. I essentially created a bootcamp partition, installed windows 7, updated firmware, then removed bootcamp and restored drive to a single partition. A long process but completely straightforward.
Here is a link their firmware updater:
http://eshop.macsales.com/CustomizedPages/Framework.cfm?page=sffirmware.html.
All that being said I am not 100% sure the new firmware resolves all issues unfortunately.
Cheers -
Mar 23, 2011 7:57 AM in response to John Harroldby VTGolfer,I was surprised as well. I've been a long time customer of theirs. They keep saying they are "working on" a mac updater, but they always qualify it with "no promise that it will ever be delivered".
Many have surmised that most likely they have asked sandforce to build an updater (sandforce is the controller chipset their SSDs are based upon) and haven't gotten a firm commitment from sandforce yet.
Anyhow, something to be aware of is that all sandforce based SSDs exhibit hangs coming out of both sleep and hibernate under various specific conditions. Until this firmware release the OWC sanctioned workaround was to do some command line voodoo to force machines to go directly to disk backed sleep instead of regular sleep. I haven't tested the new firmware. I've been waiting for initial reports from others. It's been claimed this issue was fixed with past updates as well. -
Mar 23, 2011 7:58 AM in response to Sir Atillaby VTGolfer,Ah yes. Thanks for that clarification. You are correct. I guess the main point I was making was you can't use a Virtual Machine. I can't spare the space for a bootcamp partition so I'm left with using a very old dell laptop from circa 2001. That's not fun as it necessitate opening up the mac and pulling the drive. -

10.6.7 helped the problem but did not fix it completely -
Mar 23, 2011 8:36 AM in response to jefflesby Phil3345,Hi Jeffles
Could you elaborate please?
what is the machine still doing ?Is it freezing stil?
Thanks
