Q: MacBook Pro 2011 17" hard freeze

Overheat? The fans revved and suddenly I could use nothing but the cursor. Had to hold down the power switch to kill all and then re-power & startup. I wasn't doing anything unusual, but I had 7 apps open and was amid an auto-backup to TimeMachine.

Just a little disillusioned and concerned, wondering if anyone else there has experienced a hard freeze like this.

macbook pro 17" 2011, Mac OS X (10.6.6)

No one says straightly that it is working well on windows....my question is that is it a software or hardware problem...Because if it's a software then there is no worry but if it's a hardware i am so not good

    ********.

I've said several times that it isn't a hardware issue.

It's been said several times that this issue never happened in windows. Please read. the thread. If you're not having an issue, *** are you freaking out about...it's tantamount to trolling.

If you took even 10 minutes to read the thread, you'd know:

The issue didn't happen in windows (sometimes it would happen when EXITING windows but only when trying to start osx)
The issue was a hard freeze which happened in 10.6.6
The issue was easy to trigger on **** near every macbook pro in 10.6.6
The issue was fixed in 10.6.7
The very FEW people who have an issue still likely have a hardware problem but seeing as you're NOT having an issue, this DOESNT APPLY TO YOU.

Sorry my mistake..I wanted to say software problem, not hardware...Some new macbook pro owners are facing problems with them after the update, and from my point of view these problems are related to other issues not to the original problem we are discussing in this line....( but it is only my opinion)...

Why would you say this? The evidence seems to contradict you.

1:) This issue never happened in windows
2:) This issue happened in 10.6.6 on any 2011 15/17 inch macbook pro (I've tested several and can alwasy make it happen
3:) This issue doesn't happen on 10.6.7 on any of the same machines. (Checked several in the apple store

How does that equate to a hardware issue?

    EDIT:

Just read your later posts...hehe, seems you came to the same conclusion later.

Hi! I bought a new MBP 15", 2,2GHz and SSD. I haven't tried it out yet, because I working ashore and wont go home until Monday. I heard about the problems, and the update from Apple. I have some questions, I really hope you could help me to sort them out.

Is it a lot of the new MPB users who really have the problem with freezing? Do you think it is a good chance to get a perfectly working computer? Probably I wont even encounter the problem because I wont use heavy applications. But I think I will use the computer for a long time, it cost me some money and I payed these money to get a perfectly working computer.
So, is the update really fix the problem? How do I do to perform these test best, which test should I do and in what order? I wanna test it hard and the optimal way, hopefully it just work and I can forget about this But that is probably what everyones wishes...
English is (as you can see) not my native language, but I hope you understand me alright. Otherwise we take it in Swedish

    Have a good one!

When the first units came out, the problem was widespread. I haven't seen a single unit which wasn't effected (15 and 17 inch 2011 models that is)

It was an obvious software issue because it didn't crash in windows.
10.6.7 fixed the issue. It's really easy to test. When you get your mac, before you update to 10.6.7 try one of the methods which trigger the crash. I'm sure it will freeze.

Upgrade to 10.6.7 and i'm sure it will fix it.
