May 31, 2011 8:04 AM in response to ds storeby Mac Medic (be@MacOSG.com),@ds store - Did you have the freeze issue since new? When did you buy your? I was getting the 30-second beach ball, but I found out it was from TRIM being enabled. I tuned it off with that TRIM Enabler and it took care of the problem.

May 31, 2011 9:28 AM in response to ricky_tangby Jens Ottosen,I believe you misunderstand me, Ricky, and count me for the opposite of what I try to say. I know all about the article from ifixit.com. It's one of my favourite sites.
To make it 100% clear, my opinion is that it very well can be a problem with much too much thermal paste. Just don't want to encourage people to reassemble their brand new macbooks just to check. They better just return the Macbook to the store immediately.
Second part of the problem is probably software related.
Third part of the problem is of course too heavy hardware in a very optimistic designed cabinet.
You can do something to fix problem 1 and 2, but the 3rd problem is hard to do something about. Yes, you can buy a cooling pad a combine it with the use of smcFanControl. That's what I do on my 2010 model.

Jun 2, 2011 1:25 AM in response to Rensoomby hokoonho,I have 13" 2011 mbp facing the same issues.
Hang in both OSX and Windows 7
Have 10.6.7 installed
Have SMC 2.1 upgrade
With cooling pad
Hang in OSX with Google Chrome running WebGL aquarium (1000 fish option)
Hang in Windows 7 with CPU benchmark software (Super Pi and Sandra)
The mbp hang under heavy load.
The mbp hang at both high and low temperature.
Have logic board replaced but it doesn't solve the problem. The second logic board did even worse!

Jun 4, 2011 1:34 PM in response to Rensoomby Javier BCN,Hi,
I have bought a 15'' MPB a month ago in Barcelona. I've used it normally with my design software (Photoshop, Illustrator), but in the last week it've freezed a coupled of times. I couldn't move the mouse and had to push the button to turn on it again.
I woud like to know how can I test if the machine is working OK, like making a hard test with some software open just to see how the check MPB performs and not wait to happen again.
Any advice to test this?
Thanks,
-
Jun 4, 2011 1:42 PM in response to Javier BCNby lukeydukey,Well for my particular instance of the machine crapping out, the easiest way is to turn off "automatic graphic switching" and run itunes or quicktime playing a video. If the machine starts to freeze up and lock up, it's the most surefire way of seeing if it's something logic board related. If you want to be more sure, try running an image of osx off an external drive. That's how they confirmed it for me before replacing mine.

Jun 4, 2011 1:46 PM in response to Javier BCNby MacFreak,Hello Javier BCN,
As far as Tests are concerned, please wait for someone else'e response, I have no idea anything such to test your hardware, I mean Hardware testing is other thing, but testing if its working fine... is something like,, if you able to use every part of it, undoubtedly, IT IS WORKING FINE... Hard Freezes in MBP 2011 have been suggested by many as having being solved by updates, Software as well as Firmware update ( I guess one was announced recently), this is the link for that: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1382
If still your problem persists, you can probably get it replaced in the country from where you purchased it, or if you are not in that country anymore, I guess there is little Apple can do, unless you have Apple Protection Plan purchased back in your country from where you purchased this laptop. If you do have APP you can simply tell them the problem, they will get it checked and if needed would even replace it for you.
All the best.. Cheers!
lukeydukey just replied before me.. !!

Jun 4, 2011 4:19 PM in response to Rensoomby beto Rn,I just bought a 15 inches mbp 2 days ago, I had a replacement today, they installed all the updates in the store and still freezing, there's really nothing to do? Mine freezes just by having iTunes copying my music library, should I ask for a refund?

Jun 4, 2011 4:28 PM in response to beto Rnby MacFreak,If you can wait for a couple of months for a laptop, yes you should, as the New Macbook Air is expected to release very soon now.. At the most 2 months I reckon, from the kind of Competition Intel's Ultrabooks and Windows 8 is hitting on Apple and particularly Steve Jobs...
So if you can wait for the new Macbook Air release and OS X Lion being released for sure on Monday, Jun 6 at WWDC 2011, you can rather expect a lot more developments in Macs.. so If you can... Go for it.. ask for a refund..
It is rather pretty quick, I mean, didn't really expect a Macbook to underperform so early, Just 2 days?? That too, after a replacement today.. This is a bit of shocking... So go ahead and wait for sometime!

Jun 4, 2011 6:29 PM in response to Rensoomby transmente,I just bought a Macbook Pro 15´ and it´s having a hard freeze. I work with video edition and I simply can´t get to work properly. I heard something about a new firmware that can solve this problem. Is it truth? Thanks, Antonio

Jun 4, 2011 6:55 PM in response to Rensoomby beto Rn,I managed to hard freeze the second one in the store just about 10 minutes after the vendor unboxed it.
It's kinda sad, because this was going to be my first Mac, and I'm very disappointed, well it's not that sad, but I don't feel like giving apple another try for a while

Jun 5, 2011 1:49 AM in response to Rensoomby krrn,I have had my MBP for three days now. The first day I got 3 freezes in the first 2-3 hours.
All three times it was frozen but I could still move the mouse pointer around.
I considered asking for a refund/replacement but everything runs smoothly since.
I've been using several apps at the same time (Photoshop, Illustrator, safari and iTunes/ VLC) yesterday and today. I've also done the yes > /dev/null & thing.
Everything seems to be fine.
Should I still be worried?

Jun 5, 2011 2:48 AM in response to Rensoomby oogie,WOW !!!
This isn't getting any better
Again I repeat - I have been following this since day 1
I was hoping new hardware would fix the problem but NO !
Seems like Apple need to own up to a major problem
No buying for me until no more freezes.
Anyone who has them - I suggest take it back and get a refund

Jun 5, 2011 2:52 AM in response to beto Rnby Onager,What did you do to get it to freeze up? I want to do the same test at my local apple store. I will post the results here.

Jun 5, 2011 7:02 AM in response to Onagerby beto Rn,I took a USB 250gb drive and an iPhone 4, have iTunes to add like 30gb of music to the library, then connected to iternet via the USB shared connection of the iPhone started a few downloads (Some applications, the idea was to install some apps at the same time, but it freezed before the downloads finished), and finally opened this thread in safari.
Really it was that easy. One of the app I was downloading was parallels, I also carried a windows 7 DVD, I was going to install a virtual machine, but like I said I didn't make it to that point.
Just for the record, since my two laptops freezed up by copying a lot of files, I tried erasing the hard drive with zeroes option like someone suggested in this thread, that doesn't work for me
I'm going for my refund today, good luck.
