Jul 10, 2011 10:12 PM in response to hokoonhoby jpcwa,You can believe whatever you want, but the logic boards has been replaced three times so there is no problem with a chip.

Jul 10, 2011 10:20 PM in response to anthonyfromnewbergby jpcwa,You had a Mbp that apple refused to fix and then bought another that they now refuse to fix? Dude, that makes no sense. Why on earth would you do that?

Jul 10, 2011 10:28 PM in response to jpcwaby anthonyfromnewberg,Sorry I wasn't very clear.... No I just upgraded to the core i7. AppleCare has been very good to me, I can't complain. I just think by July the hardware issues should be ironed out so far. Not on my specific machine but there should be no more computers in the vault that are exhibiting this issue by now. I just hate having to swap it out... Waste of my life you know? I hope that makes sense... I didn't rebuy a laptop because they couldn't fix it. You're right, that would be just silly.

Jul 10, 2011 11:17 PM in response to jpcwaby hokoonho,The point is that the "Early batch" MBP may experience such problem, Apple Care just older a replacement that contains the same faulty chipset. This is the "FACT" the first batch of Intel chipset are faulty, this is a well know problem! All PC vender just wait until Intel recall the first batch of chipset, However, Apple rush and still using the faulty chips. MBP purchases after May 2011 didn't have this issues since they got a revision chipset.
Do you think 3 times in a Row is impossible?
You are wrong!
I have a 2006 MacBook, 5 times in a Row!
Battery expand in the first day!, then RSD, logic board replaced, then Power adaptor sound, then Battery dead after 50 charge cycle!!!, Finally, another Battery recall from Apple!
This is the "Fact", you cannot argue with the "Fact"

Jul 11, 2011 7:42 AM in response to oGr3by oGr3,It came back from the second time from the repair centre today.
This time they exchanged the Airport card. The last time they exchanged the motherboard, but for another old one.
The store called me and offered to test drive it before I picked it up - they called 20 minutes later and said that I didn't have to come in.
Same problem!
Apple needs to get their **** together. The repair centre seems totally incompenent as well - not testdriving the stuff at least 15 minutes before saying that it's 'fixed'.
Now I have to wait for a new machine and I will not accept anything but a machine with the new revision motherboard.

Jul 11, 2011 4:44 PM in response to oGr3by osxfr33k,I just bought a MBP i7 2.3Ghz 2011 with Matte finish. I am watching the temperatures with iSTAT.
I have about 10 applications running, Ilife applications mostly, geek bench glview, and a couple other things my temos for CPU up to 65c degrees and GPU diode around 50c degrees.
Its 68 degrees fahrenheit in this room and the counter top is very cool. I wonder how much higher the temps will rise in a warmer environment?
How can I tell which revision motherboard chipset I have? I have 10 days left if I want to return this and want to make sure I have the correct revsion.
I do have one major complaint. You know the logic board metal posts around the peripheral. They are springy, well two of them came off. The are not soldered but glued to the board. What the heck is going on here?
And in regards to the AMD Radeon I heard a rumour of some 6750M recalls or is this incorrect? I know the PC side has pulled some of them.
Why did apple go with AMD over the way better GTX 400m and 500m series nvidia graphics? I definitely see a difference in quality of the images on screen color etc and no its not the antiglare reason what so ever I see a difference in both the glossy and matte finish LCDs.
Thanks

Jul 11, 2011 4:55 PM in response to osxfr33kby JavaX,Type System View at spotlight and click on it. In the right side will appear a list showing many devices and others things, choose SATA. Then you'll see your HD bay and your optical drive bay, both must have link speed at 6Gb/s.
Apple is using AMD now because Intel and Nvidia are discussing about a patent, something like that.

Jul 11, 2011 5:35 PM in response to JavaXby osxfr33k,Is the 6Gb/s the newer revision logic board? I used System Profiler. I don't see a System View when I search in Spotlight?
So then Apple will probably go back to nvidia once all that is starightened out?
I wonder if the glue on my logic board was a bad batch for those metal posts?
-
Jul 11, 2011 9:26 PM in response to osxfr33kby JavaX,Sorry, the correct application is the system profiler!
Don't forget checking the SATA port and the Optical drive port, both must have the link speed at 6Gb/s. Many people only checks the sata port and since the first early 2011 macbook pro the sata port has a link speed at 6Gb/s, the new build has changed only the optical drive speed, that should be 6Gb/s.

Jul 12, 2011 6:32 AM in response to JavaXby discombob,I have an early 2011 17" Macbook Pro, stock spec, approximately three weeks old.
Have been getting random freezes at about one freeze per day - most of the time it's if I leave my computer on over night, though it has happened whilst I was working on it. If music is playing, it will continue to play in the background. The screen will become completely distorted, with a checkered glitchy grid covering the whole screen. I can just about make out the desktop through this, and can see my mouse moving around, though the actual OS is unresponsive.
It has never crashed under 'heavy load', though in most cases it was in the middle of some sort of file download in Firefox (though I doubt this is related). The fans have always been on full blast during the crashes, with the CPU temperature never exceeding 50˚C. I have tried the varies terminal and web-based stress tests, with no apparent reproducible crashes.
My SATA port suggests I have the old build (3Gb/s on the optical drive).
Is there a fix for this or should I go and get it replaced? More crucially, is this likely to be a hardware problem or a software problem? Could it be related to the RAM, or is it more likely some form of GPU/SATA issue?
-
Jul 12, 2011 6:58 AM in response to discombobby Phil3345,Im no expert but all the problems on here seem to have 1 thing in common- the sata port has the 3Gb/s.
If you have the old board TAKE IT BACK.Mine has the new version and has so far not crashed when im video editing and that was a 6 hour session.Get into ur local mac shop and kick up a fuss

Jul 12, 2011 7:11 AM in response to discombobby hokoonho,Just want to make sure, which browser did you use in the web test, which test did you try? and what is the setting in the test?

Jul 12, 2011 7:44 AM in response to hokoonhoby discombob,Using Chrome, set to discrete graphics card using gfxcardstatus, running http://www.chromeexperiments.com/detail/webgl-aquarium/?f=webgl with 1000 fish fullscreen.
Ran it for a solid 20 minutes no problem, with temperatures reaching perhaps 55˚C, the framerate was solid at 60fps.
PS. I am in Hong Kong as well, where did you buy your laptop and have you tried to get it replaced?

Jul 12, 2011 8:40 AM in response to JavaXby osxfr33k,When you say Optical you do mean the Cdrom controller correct? There is the Audio and Thunderbut(bolt) Thunderbolt better be more than 6Gb/s
Both say 6Gb/s.
Still would like to know why those Metal springy posts fell off. Two of them and I never touched them.
At least the are not soldered on for sure they are glued on.
What the heck are they used for?

Jul 12, 2011 9:01 AM in response to osxfr33kby discombob,Yeah, the optical disc drive for sure:
