    It is CRITICAL that everyone with this problem report it on www.apple.com/feedback - otherwise Apple cannot do anything about it since they don't know about it. Be sure to give the URL to this thread so that they can see the extent of the problem.

     

    Also note that in most countries or states there are consumer protection regulations that will protect you beyond the warranty if there is an obvious manufacturing flaw. In Sweden for instance, the local Apple representatives were very helpful in guiding me through that process.

    If you are having this problem, and you are still able to start up the computer, make sure you open Console after a freeze to confirm that it was indeed the GPU. In my case the log in Console ,add it obvious that the GPU was at fault, with a massive GPU crash dump report

    So anyone has new findings related to this freezing problem? Mine is already out of warranty therefore don't think Apple would accept their mistake and return it. It's been 3 weeks now since I'm 'struggling' to use my MBP.

    It's sad when users have to do what the company won't do because the company won't be ethical and properly address situations.  But that is presuming that the company is aware of the problem in the first place and Apple is hardly a small business with a handful of staff more likely to spread information around...  it is possible those that need to know don't know...

     

    Having said that, my 2011 MBP 17" has yet to exhibit this problem, and I hope it won't happen.  But for 120+ pages, there certainly seems to be a legitimate problem going on for some.  Since these are $2500 laptops, some expectations of functionality are not irrational...

    2011 MBP 15" AMD HD Radeaon 6750M.

     

    Constantly freezes and I tried everything! gfxcardstatus, integrated or discreet card, external screen or not it still crashes. I even formatted HD and reinstalled OSX.

     

    I'm an IT pro and I giving up now.

     

    Why ain't Apple responding to a 122 pager thread?

    MBP Early 2011, 15 inch. Exact same problem!

    Switch to discrete causes problems, I'm using gfxCardStatus right now to stick to integrated. Might even keep the laptop on sleep for extended periods to avoid the startup issues.

     

    I'm submitting a complaint form to Apple right away...this is blatantly a design issue which seems to be kicking in around 2 yrs or a little less after purchase for most of us. That is a silly lifetime for a laptop!

     

    EVERYONE needs to submit a feedback form to clarify to them that this is indeed a fundamental error from their side...and they need to address it.

    Agreed. I have a 15", and we need everyone possible to report these issues on the Feedback form. I did before, and I'll do it again.

    Something else to consider is that the logic board replacement, which seems to be the Apple solution at this stage, does NOT seem to work. They need to go back to the drawing board and come up with some sort of remediation for this!

    Agreed: having read the many tales of repeat repairs that led me to trust a 3rd party non authorised mother board repair shop that works with my company often. They replaced the GPU and re-flowed the mother board (melting the solder just a little to remake connections).

     

    It's working for now and has become my wife's computer at home.

    Yeah, exactly. What I'm afraid of is the replacement having an issue. I guess then I'd be on pretty good grounds to demand a new one. I'm really ****** that Apple isn't replacing these things for free though. They obviously have a latent defect, and yet they just keeping quoting the price to repair the machine, which quite frankly is insulting.

    What I am also trying to figure out is if there is any legal avenue to pursue. Is Apple legally responsible for a latent defect in their product in the states of Connecticut or Rhode Island? If I can find anything that I think may make them responsible, then I'll consider small claims court for monetary damages so that I can then take the money and pay Apple to repair it (wouldn't that be ironic?).

    Call your lawyer, that is a question for him.

    Hi ,

    Apple does nothing! Here's a picture where the problem really is . Bad production !! Of course they will tell you it's your fault and it is the soft , blablabla ...

     

    Here is the solution : Warm up your oven 200 C , take your logic board out , here is how .

    CLEAN the graphic card and processor , because this is where the trouble started , bad production of Apple' factory in China !

     

    Put your logic board (take the woofer out) in the oven for exactly 8 min (timer) take it out and let cool of...

     

    Put new thermal paste on the graphic card and processor ...

     

    Re-assemble ...

     

    First start up take's a while , but after 10 sec .... bvaaaaaaaam  apple sound !

     

    And you know what , for the skepticals , you have nothing to loose .

     

    Funny thing is that my mac book early 2011 now is performing on 37 degrees C , before 72 degrees , all the time .

     

    My legs where red as the "Laptop"warmed up .
