Q: Error -36

Hi all,

Getting an unusual error. Having applied a fade in to an audio region, I try to play the project, but an error appears:

I/O Error
Result code = -36.

Upon clicking OK, I get:

Fade Update Failed.(Error -36.)

Clicking OK again resumes playing of the project, WITH fades I applied working. This happens every time I press play, unless I edit the fades...

Editing the length of the fade means there is no error upon pressing play. However, changing the fade again (not necessarily to the same place as before) often means the error re-appears. As far as I can see, it's basically a random problem with the fade function.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

use automation instead and draw the fades.

    Hi,

Thanks for the response. Sure, this would work equally as well... but a function as basic as a fade in shouldn't be causing problems. The automation doesn't solve the issue, its just a workaround really.

Anyone know why it happens/a way of fixing it?

    Thanks!

i know it's a work around as i had the same problem appear suddenly on one song with probably 50+ fades and no matter what i tried i couldn't correct the issue. i removed and reapplied all the fades but the same issues arose. ****, audio even began playing several bars after the track had finished and the only fix that worked was automation.

i think it's just one of those bugs that happen with no definable cause or fix.

same problem here. I first try "Audio - Delete All Fades" then hit play. It works sometimes. Definitely a bug that should be addressed.

Seeing the same issue here.   Resetting record path doesn nothing, deleting fades and forcing Logic to recreate them also does nothing.   Latest in a series of workflow crippling bugs Logic has thrown at me over the last month or so.

There's was a time I told myself I stuck with Logic because at least it was reliable, but that argument no longer really holds water.

    Any help appreciated.

    And here.

It is highly annoying and is not a permissions issue per se.  All related drives have "ignore permissions on this volume" checked. Disk Warrior has been run.

I'm fairly convinced it's a bug at this point. It started for me in 9.1.3 and continues in 9.1.4

The problem seems to often appear following a "save as" command, but otherwise doesn't seem to exhibit any discernible pattern.

I seem to remember this being an audio pathway issue, especially the error 36 message

I would suggest try re-setting the audio path for the song.

Click and hold the record button > record settings...

    See if that helps...

    Hi,

While it doesn't change the fact that something is obviously unhappy i/o-wise, I find that if I "select all" and move everything forwards one bar (ie don't start the song on bar 1) the error message goes away and the track starts up fine.

    Give that a try.

    Cheers,

    Mark.

Maddening.  I have constant and persistent fade errors.

I recently started using Logic after 23 years using Cakewalk/Sonar. Fades worked perfectly 10 years ago for me in my old software. This is ridiculous. I have to coax the project each time I draw a simple fade. Ugh. This is akin to having to wiggle the handle on the toilet after every time you flush or having to rev up the engine in an old car so that you don't stall.

I've joined the club.   Fade errors all the time.   This frustrating!  And I agree, it's not a permissions issue.

This is fixed in Logic 9.1.7.

i'm getting this i/o error -36 in pro tools right now trying to import a file into an existing session. everything else is working just fine. in other posts, people are saying this -36 error is a media/disk you're using error NOT an "i/o" in the audio sense error.... very weird and very frustrating....
