Can't disable IR on MBP 13" 2011

Under Settings - Security Disable remote control infrared receiver is checked, but it still responds to the remote I use for my Mac Mini.

I've tried to toggle it, reboot etc, but it still responds.

Any ideas?

Do both a SMC PRAM reset after making sure the button is unchecked.

_SMC RESET_

• Shut down the computer.
• Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if its not already connected.
• On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time.
• Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.
• Press the power button to turn on the computer.

_PRAM RESET_

• Shut down the computer.
• Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step
• Turn on the computer.
• Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
• Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
• Release the keys.

I have seen this on my new 13" MBP (thunderbolt 2011 model). I was finally able to get the IR to turn off by reseting the SMC and the PRAM then rebooting into 32-bit mode. These units boot 64-bit by default and if that's what Apple wants us to do then they should be fixing this. Why didn't it get fixed in the last update? This issue has been known basically since the day these were released. It's a band-aid fix but it works.
