Safari 5.0.3 and gmail: Can't attach files or complete addresses

For some reason composing new emails in Gmail stopped working with Safari 5.0.3 (on 10.6). Specifically, I can't attach files (clicking "Attach a file" makes it disappear) nor can I auto-complete the To: field (clicking on a suggestion does nothing, and I can't select the suggestion to cut&paste so it's really annoying).

Does anyone else have these problems?

Hi,

Click Safari / Preferences - Security. Click the Show Cookies button. Delete all Google cookies.

Now empty the Safari cache either from the menu bar or Command + Option + E.

Restart your Mac. If that didn't help, quit Safari.

Open a Finder window select your Home folder in the Sidebar on the left. Then open the Library folder, then the Caches folder, then the *com.apple.Safari folder*.

Move the cache.db file from the com.apple.Safari folder to the Trash. Relaunch Safari.

Please click My Settings on the right side of this page and tell us which Mac OS X you have installed. That way you have a forum profile set up. Thanks!

I have the same issue. It's super annoying. The "fix" to delete all the cookies works. BUT, I have to do it like once every day or two days for it to continue to work. Incredibly annoying and not a "fix" at all in my book. I hope Apple steps up and addresses this soon.

In the meantime, instead of always deleting my cookies (which signs me out of Gmail, etc), I've found that if you lessen your Safari window from full screen to a smaller size and then drag files near the "attach a file" field directly into the email you are composing, that works just fine. Again NOT A FIX (I like my Safari full screen), but a temporary band-aid for the time being until Apple get's its act together and releases a Safari update to fully address this issue.

Ugh...I've been a Mac user for a year now, and while awesome, all these "little" issues are really building up:

1)I've had to replace my trackpad already (a known issue with late 2011 Macbook Airs that, again, has not been addressed by Apple);

2) I had to replace my power brick within the first 2 weeks because it totally fried;

3) My computer continues to run really "hot" when certain programs, applications, or websites are open (so, I've simply had to just avoid all of those and lost some money on Apps that I simply can't use because of this issue); and

4) Now this attaching file garbage in my email.

Apple support is the shining light. Always very helpful when you contact them, but still uber annoying that I've had to do it so many times on a $1,400 machine that is less than a year old. Not to mention, I'm out of the country 8 months a year, and I've had to sit on some of these issues until I've gotten back to the US.

Probably not as bad as PCs, and generally my Mac has been way better than anything else I've used, but just evidence that NO ONE has gotten it right. Consequently, while I'm really trying to be an avid Apple fan, I'm still not sold. If it keeps up, I might just have to switch back to crappy netbooks that I have to replace every year, but would still be much cheaper than Apple.
