Safari 5.0.3 and gmail: Can't attach files or complete addresses
Does anyone else have these problems?
I'm running safari 5.0.5 under OSX 10.6.7 and am having attachment problems as well. I click the attach button and nothing happens at all. If I reply to a message I CAN attach a file. If I switch to the "HTML" method I can also attach a file. Everything works fine in Firefox, so that seems to point to Safari.
Incidentally, it works fine with safari 4.1.3 under 10.4.11.... That's still where I do most of my work. Haven't tried it under 10.5 but don't use it much either. Would definitely like to have it work with 10.6.
My gmail seems broken with the latest safari update. To, CC, BCC address auto complete is broken. I cannot use GMail anymore. Does anyone else have similar problems?
The second part of your advice did the trick for me. I needed to delete cache.db from com.apple.Safari to fix the gmail problems described by the OP.
Thanks!
There is no folder like that under my library. Anything else you might suggest?
It seems like that fixed the problem for some people. I use the latests iOS and latest Safari.
Thank you!
I'm having the same issue on safari 5.1.5. Clicking 'Attach a file' in gmail does nothing.

actually it does work but not every click. Sometimes I need to click the 'attach a file' link 5 times before it pops up. Other times I click it twice and it works. Strange!
I have the same issue. It's super annoying. The "fix" to delete all the cookies works. BUT, I have to do it like once every day or two days for it to continue to work. Incredibly annoying and not a "fix" at all in my book. I hope Apple steps up and addresses this soon.
In the meantime, instead of always deleting my cookies (which signs me out of Gmail, etc), I've found that if you lessen your Safari window from full screen to a smaller size and then drag files near the "attach a file" field directly into the email you are composing, that works just fine. Again NOT A FIX (I like my Safari full screen), but a temporary band-aid for the time being until Apple get's its act together and releases a Safari update to fully address this issue.
Ugh...I've been a Mac user for a year now, and while awesome, all these "little" issues are really building up:
1)I've had to replace my trackpad already (a known issue with late 2011 Macbook Airs that, again, has not been addressed by Apple);
2) I had to replace my power brick within the first 2 weeks because it totally fried;
3) My computer continues to run really "hot" when certain programs, applications, or websites are open (so, I've simply had to just avoid all of those and lost some money on Apps that I simply can't use because of this issue); and
4) Now this attaching file garbage in my email.
Apple support is the shining light. Always very helpful when you contact them, but still uber annoying that I've had to do it so many times on a $1,400 machine that is less than a year old. Not to mention, I'm out of the country 8 months a year, and I've had to sit on some of these issues until I've gotten back to the US.
Probably not as bad as PCs, and generally my Mac has been way better than anything else I've used, but just evidence that NO ONE has gotten it right. Consequently, while I'm really trying to be an avid Apple fan, I'm still not sold. If it keeps up, I might just have to switch back to crappy netbooks that I have to replace every year, but would still be much cheaper than Apple.
