Macbook proxies

Hello,

Since changing ISP's I have been unable to access several websites (youtube, twitter etc.) on my trusty old Macbook from my home connection (although I am able to access the aforementioned websites from an internet cafe and on other wifi connections).

I put in a fault report with my ISP and after successfully running the sites from a internet proxy server, they concluded that there was a problem with old proxies (???) on my Macbook disrupting ip addresses accessed on my internet connection (???).

I am functionally illiterate when it comes to this networking stuff.

Could someone please help me by suggesting a way I can by pass or disable these proxies or protocols that are disrupting my access to websites?

I am sorry that I am not able to give a more fulsome description of the situation, all I know is that something on my macbook is apparently disrupting the connection between my home ip address and websites (though a proxy server will give me access to the website).

Welcome to Apple Discussions!

Proxies are either setup in the browser preference level, the Network System Preferences from the Apple menu, or the router/modem setup. Generally they are used to speed the internet and go through specific paths on the internet provider rather than a freely roaming request to browse the web. That said, does the new ISP support proxies or not? If not, you need to edit all your network settings to remove them. If it does, ask them if they are necessary, or if they can be removed.

Thanks for the welcome and thank you so much for you reply!

My ISP said I " was having problems accessing some websites, but not all [those that could not be accessed normally can be accessed through sites like unblockworld.com]".

I therefore needed to "reset my proxies".

I have been through: systempreferences/network/proxies and all proxy boxes are unchecked.

What does one do to "reset my proxies"?

Do not use proxies.

Adding Open DNS codes to your Network Preferences, should give good results in terms of speed-up as well as added security:

If you are using a single computer: Open System Preferences/Network. Double click on your connection type, or select it in the drop-down menu, and in the box marked 'DNS Servers' add the following two numbers:

208.67.222.222
208.67.220.220

(You can also enter them if you click on Advanced and then DNS)

I tried the DNS servers and they unfortunately seem to cause my Internet to come to a halt.

How would one go about removing proxies?

Contact your ISP.
