2011 13 MBP i5 ***debug info for apparent hang in main graphics engine ***

*debug info for apparent hang in main graphics engine *

console is giving me this message and it is affecting my MBP's ability to wake from sleep correctly. I get either a dark screen or scrambled graphics and have to hold the power button to re-boot.

(I do have an external display hooked up to the MBP, this was never an issue with all my past Macbooks.)

David,
That is possible. Worse consequences have been seen using the Migration Assistant from a PowerPC to an Intel Mac. Try creating another admin account to see if the issue persists there. If it does, then the issue is somewhere in System -> Library or Hard drive -> Library. Unfortunately pinning it down may be harder than a simple erase and install and only selectively recovering that which you need from your two backups.

I also did a system migration (from a 2.13 C2D Macbook 5.2)...

thought this might be an issue, so I did another sys. migration with "machine or computer settings" (whatever it says) UNchecked, and the same behavior with autosleep continues.

I also did delete library/preferences/system configuration/com.apple.PowerManagement.plist, and this did not help.

Just to add my voice to this thread and report that I have the exact same issue with a 15" 2011 MBP.

This too was migrated from a MacBook (2008) but the problem occurred for me before the migration so not sure that's related.

Spent over 2 hrs with AppleCare today and no real progress so going to take it to an Apple store next week and try to get it swapped.

My 15" MBP 15 Core i7 has the same problem. Spoke with AppleCare and tried resetting to power management unit and the PRAM; no improvement. Also tried reinstalling the 10.6.7 'early 2011 macbook pro' update - still no change.

Each attempt at waking from sleep produces a series of the same error messages in Console. Here's the full series:

Re-sleeping and re-waking the machine occasionally lets the screen come back on.

The machine itself is running; I can ssh into it from another computer.

I tried disabling hibernation, too ( http://danwarne.com/how-to-turn-off-slow-sleep-hibernate-mode-on-a-macbook-pro/), with no change.

Anyone with new information on the issue? Going to take it to the Apple Store, I suppose, once I have time...

Well, Apple sent me out a new MBP 15" and after restoring from Time Machine I get the exact same problem. So whilst not exactly 'good news' this does suggest to me this is a software issue, not a hardware one so can (and hopefully will) be fixed at some point in the future.

I don't have time to do a erase & install and re-install all apps etc one by one so it looks like I'll just have to live with this for now. I've turned off dynamic switching and it's all fine so not really a big deal.

I am experiencing this problem intermittently as well. My MBP is always in closed clamshell mode, connected to a 30" Apple Cinema Display (one at work, one at home) using an Apple Mini-Display Port to Dual-Link DVI adaptor. Sometimes, when going to work or coming home form work, the MBP refuses to wake up after being connected to the monitor. Usually the monitor simply stays black. Sometimes, it shows the screen saver image, but never displays the login prompt. The machine then appears to refuse to go back to sleep. The cooling fan revs up to full-speed and if I disconnect the power chord and let it run for a bit, when I eventually have to power-cycle it, the batter is significantly drained.

I have been working with Apple support for the past couple weeks and have sent in 2 diagnostic reports so far.

In my case, I "hand-migrated" my data from a prior MBP. I could not use Migration Assistant because my account on my prior MBP was a Mobile account associated with an OS X Server LDAP setup. The only "library" files I migrated were those that I needed to get specific apps to work (like Mail, and Safari). I have virtually no non-standard apps installed (Firefox, MySQL 5.5.9, MySQL Workbench, OmniGraffle, MacFamily Tree, LogTen Pro, iWork 2009, Office 2008 are the only that I can find).

Same issue with a 2011 MBP 15" (that we just got as a replacement for an older system that had the same problem). I get the same errors in my console logs. I manually moved files over from the old system, so I didn't move any prefs or settings - just docs, music, videos, etc. - just data was moved to the new system.

That tells me I didn't introduce the issue, as it actually happened before I had a chance to move any files over. It sounds like Apple has replaced a number of machines due to this issue. I had 3 logic boards, a heat sync assembly (or whatever it's called), an Airport card and a optical drive replaced over the 18 months we had the machine. Apple threw in the towel and replaced it with this system and it still locks up.

Until Apple fixes this via a SW update (and it will be a SW update, as I can't imagine this is HW related) I'll be turning Sleep off.

Same problems here, MacBook Pro bought April 2011, 13inch, won't wake up

from sleep, display either blank or corrupted:

I hope Apple fix this via a software update soon. This is the second hang I've had on

opening the lid.

Yesterday the same issue happened to my MacBook 13" bought on june 2011.

In my case I was browsing internet and playing music in iTunes when it started to freeze intermittently.

I closed and reopened the lid after waiting some seconds and the issue disappeared without a reboot.

It really looks like a bug at the kernel level (graphic driver?).

I hope that Apple fixes this because it's very serious and annoying.
