*debug info for apparent hang in main graphics engine *

console is giving me this message and it is affecting my MBP's ability to wake from sleep correctly. I get either a dark screen or scrambled graphics and have to hold the power button to re-boot.

(I do have an external display hooked up to the MBP, this was never an issue with all my past Macbooks.)

I'm having this same trouble with a Mac mini server 2011 (Lion). As others have done, I imported my account setting from a previous machine. The machine is very slow and takes a long time to respond, especially when displaying web pages.

Someone with similar errors at http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=259705 was able to solve hist problem with a hex editor. He says it is a driver problem.

Same error here (Macbook Air 13" Mid2011):

it causes very long wakeup time and high load. It started to happen without installing any new programs or anything...VERY ANNOYING!

Same problems here with a 2011 Mac Mini (not server) running Lion 10.7.2 as a media PC connected to my TV with HDMI. I have not migrated anything, this is a fresh 10.7.0 factory installation that has been upgraded to 10.7.1 and then 10.7.2.

I seem to be able to trigger the problem when running screen sharing, connecting to the Mini from another Mac.

My computer is running 24/7. When I checked the logs this issue only appeared when I was using the computer, either through screen sharing or through Plex which is my main use for this machine.

According to a thread on insanelymac you can either do some hex editing (let's call this the "advanced" option) or unplug the connector to the external display for a couple of seconds and then reconnect it.

I rebooted my Mac Mini without having my HDMI connector plugged in (which probably wasn't necessary) and the problem seems to have gone away. No hangs when connecting through screen sharing and I've also checked the /var/log/kernel.log file and no more

in the file.

It would of course be better with a proper fix from Apple, but it is at least a workaround until then.

Hi,

I am seeing this same error on my Mac Mini Server 2011.

I am in contact with the Apple support since mid January for resolving this.

So far what has been done:

1- PRAM reset

2- submission of logs to Apple using their EDC program (used to collect and send logfiles to Apple)

3- Replacement of the main board

The issue keeps coming every 7-8 days.

Rebooting without the hdmi cable plugged-in doesn't prevent this error from occuring (this workaround was suggested on a post before).

Could this be related to some software I am using?

I am running the following:

- Wine VNC

- VMWare Fusion

- DynDNS Updater

Any help or common pattern to help better understand the issue are very welcome.

Thanks

I had issues with waking up my mac since I bought it. Additionaly - recently my mbp hung twice ( this issue: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3219125?start=0&tstart=0 ).

One app that I think may be causing this is virtualbox (it installs some kernel modules). I'm also using InsomniaX but I had those issues before I installed it. Also - did you upgraded your RAM to 8 gigs?

Cool update: the problem is not occuring any longer on my mac mini server: the server has been running for 19 days and hasn't crashed (used to crash every 7-8 days before).

This is a major win: no need any more for a crontab server reboot every monday morning!

What changed?

I stopped using VMWare Fusion.

Instead I use VirtualBox to run virtual machines

I am suspecting Mac OS Lion to let VMWare run instructions that the MacOS graphic layer doesn't support.

This is clearly a bug for Mac to resolve, hope to see a fix soon.

On the meantime, if you are facing the same issue, I would recommend giving a go at VirtualBox and seeing if your issue goes away with the change.
