MacBook Pro '10 Low Sound: Cirrus Logic CS4206A (AB 11)

Hey there,

I am using Windows 7 through Boot Camp on my 2010 MacBook Pro. The sound on the Mac OS X side is pretty good, on the other hand, it is considerably lower on the Windows side. I have come across many articles but none of them actually helped me.

This is the audio chip I have: Cirrus Logic CS4206A (AB 11)

I tried downloading the "High Definition Codecs" driver from Cirrus Logic's website but the download link doesn't work.

Please help! I need a good sound on the Windows side.

Thank you.

I've been a long time reader on the Apple forums and would like to contribute back.

The weird thing is, I had low volume in Windows 7 Ultimate x64 w/ bootcamp 3.2 before I installed the driver in the link you provided.

After I installed the CS4207 drivers the sound went back to normal, meaning the loudness was similar to OS X 10.6.6.

Have you tried installing the drivers from bootcamp 3.2?

I followed the step by step instructions in this youtube video:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uVfRQ0YIDUI

I skipped the hotfix step as it is unnecessary, did a windows update for important updates (don't restart yet), went ahead and popped in the snow leopard disc and installed bootcamp from there. When done installing, restart.

Immediately after booting back into Windows (which takes forever) launch apple update and download and install bootcamp 3.2, restart.

From here on I updated Win7 until I couldn't update anymore.

There should be an Apple fix, or article, or at the least a sticky.
