How do you draw connecting lines in Pages?

How do you draw connecting lines in Pages?

I'm trying to draw an exercise: connect the nine dots. I can get the dots—but can't connect them!!
Any ideas?? (I know HOW to connect them, but can't get the lines.)

+shift command click+ on (only) 2 objects at a time:

+Menu > Insert > Connection Line+

You see, I have these nine dots . . .

and I'm to connect them without lifting the pencil from the paper. I know I can't do it all at once on the computer (even with a Mac), but I'd like to see the dots as well as the lines. Is this possible??

Do you want me to solve the puzzle for you, because it is an old one and easy to solve if you just look outside the square.

To actually draw the lines, there is a line tool at the bottom of the Shapes menu.

Peter,
I know how to solve the problem —working outside the lines, but I can't draw it on the computer. THat's what I'm trying to do.

What exactly does that mean?

We can't see what you are/are not doing.

Clicking the line tool at the bottom of the Shapes button menu brings up the grey box shown above.

Following those instructions to draw the three connected line segments shown:

Place the mouse pointer (pen nib) at point 1. Click (and release).
Move the pointer to point 2. Click (and release).
Move the pointer to point 3. Click (and release).
Move the pointer to point 4. Click (and release).
Press the esc(ape) key.

Done.

My guess is that you either missed the 'and release' part or the 'press escape to finish' part.

One tool you could use in Pages is Insert > Connection Line. This graphic was made in Pages with 13 circle shapes and 12 connecting lines.

You could also Insert the 9 circles and then connect them with one segmented line shape.

Continuing; I took the long way around when I connected every dot. I could have just applied connection lines between the extremes and let them run across the interior dots without connecting and it would have looked the same.
