Jul 15, 2011 3:44 PM in response to antiguangeniusby tonefox,You have a 3G iPad with GPS, or you faked/borrowed the screenshots, or, more likely, you are trolling. Your post history would seem to lean towards the latter. Listen to me when I speak.

Jul 15, 2011 5:28 PM in response to ascotsgrannyby Roosevelt Jones,You will need a GPS receiver which, out of the box, a Wi-Fi only iPad does not have. There is a chance that you can get a 3rd party GPS receiver module that you can physically connect to the iPad that may work with a GPS based navigation app. You should contact the apps support site to confirm this. You can also ask to what extent you can pre install maps and POI information for the app for possible offline use. Otherwise you will need a mobile Wi-Fi connection if you need to have on the fly map and POI data.

Jul 16, 2011 1:43 PM in response to antiguangeniusby tonefox,I shall not encourage your trolling after this post. Your screenshots unwisely identify your iPad as Apple Model MC770LL.
Submit an Apple link that defines this model as including full GPS ability, or stop trying to do whatever it is that trolls try to do.

Since you have BlueTooth enabled on your iPad, I'd say you are using a compatible BlueTooth GPS device with .

The Dual GPS Status Tool app does that and more.

Jul 17, 2011 11:03 AM in response to MyApple8MyPCby Roosevelt Jones,Okay. Thanks for the info. I do not think the Apple GPS hardware provides that level of satellite detail by itself. You need the 3rd party external module to get this information.

Jul 17, 2011 1:01 PM in response to Roosevelt Jonesby richfromberkley,Great Article!! Seems to explain everything. Even how GPS works on my WiFi only iPad. The time issue even explained how my location didn't work and when I set the correct time zone, it started working. Amazing piece of equipment.

It appears you did not understand the article. The wifi only iPad does not have the hardware to do GPS. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Global_Positioning_System

If your iPad does GPS then you have a wifi+3g iPad, not a wifi only iPad. There is no speculation, read the iPad specifications. http://www.apple.com/ipad/specs/ whicjh states that:
the wifi only iPad determines location using
- wifi
- digital compass.
the wifi + 3G iPad determines location using
- Wi-Fi
- Digital compass
- Assisted GPS
- Cellular
