You should be able to simply plug the SIM into the new iPad and it will work. Nothing else needed.

According to AT&T you cannot swap the SIM.

Because they want you to keep your AT&T SIM and use AT&T.
And I doubt they told you it was "carrier locked".

Actually, i've seen SIMs swapped before between iPads (for exchange purposes, repairs, so forth) and they worked just fine.

Guess we'll see come March 11.

AT&T told me that I could. I plan on calling again next week to clarify. By then, their reps should have had more training on the issue.

I have the same questions and here's what I found. It sounds simple enough. I'd verify with AT&T.

Ok.that was a very good article i still have a question. I am selling mr ipad 1 this week. I can get all those numbers off my ipad but what then happens if i restore factory settings before i puchase the new ipad. Does that cancel the simms card and thus cancel my account?

You're going to need to call AT&T for that information.

They also said it would be better (easier) to just call AT&T iPad support when you are going to activate your iPad 2 and they will transfer it for you.

all u need is ur celluar data # and ur new IMEI # from ur new ipad2, and u are to use ur old sim card, thats what has ur celluar data # on it.

Today I asked this question at the Apple Store, regarding my USA AT&T unlimited 3G data plan: "Can I just move my SIM card from my iPad1 to an iPad2 and have it retain the unlimited data plan?" The Apple Store answer was "Yes, the data plan moves with the SIM card."

I then went to the AT&T Store and asked the same question. The answer was "Yes." I said, "Even if it's 'unlimited"?'" They said, "Yes."

Be sure to ask the question yourself before buying, of course.

edit payment information link...then update the following two fields:
IMEI:
ICCID:

You get this info from the iPad (1 or 2) selct 'Settings' then 'General' then 'About'...

The IMEI and ICCID info is on that screen. No need to swap the SIM cards. This process outlined above transfers service instantly and does NOT change the plan type, billing, user info, or days remaining. Basically anytime an ATT customer wants to move a data plan the ATT iPad web page is all you need. No phone call!

Great Info! Support desk at ATT said there was no way to change it. Apple said only way to switch out the SIM card. Thanks for your post!

Or just swap the sim cards as per Apple's support website. Worked for me. Don't need to do anything with ATT.
