The Gmail IMAP server “imap.gmail.com” rejected the password for user “xxx”

I keep getting this error message repeatedly from my mail.app and now my iphone 4. at first it was only on my mbp but now its on my iphone.

a bunch of users on gmails support thread are having issues as well. anyone else have this issue and a fix?

unlocking CAPTCHA does not fix ... deleting and remaking account in mail.app does not work either


2011 MBP, Mac OS X (10.6.6)
