iTunes 10.2 breaks syncing my iPhone/iPad devices

I just downloaded iTunes 10.2 via Software Update.

After installing, I can't sync my iPhone and iPad anymore. When starting a sync, CPU load rises to 100% and iTunes is stuck at "preparing sync".

I also tried to reinstall iTunes by downloading the package: Same effect.

Same problem, after installing the 10.2 update I can no longer sync with my iPad. I've done a reset on the iPad and reinstalled iTunes 10.2 from the installer. Doesn't always bring up iTunes when I plug in the iPad, however when it does recognize the iPad it starts the sync then drops the sync in step 1 of 6 (backup). The iPad then stays in sync mode even though nothing is going on. Does this every time. Hope they have a fix soon or are they might make us wait until March 11 when the corresponding update for the iPad OS will be available. Maybe that's the issue.

@All,

I am experiencing the same problem both with my iPhone 3GS and with my iPad, both running iOS 4.2.1. It does not disappear on subsequent attempts to sync either device, i.e., it does not happen only on the first sync with iTunes 10.2. I notice that the following message appears in the console log as soon as I connect the device, is repeated throughout the synchronization, and disappears when I disconnect it:

3/03/11 9:18:11 PM com.apple.usbmuxd[30] HandleUSBMuxDictionary client 0x101c011e0-iTunes/com.apple.iTunes using library usbmuxd-211 built on Jan 13 2011 at 04:19:31, running usbmuxd-211 built on Jan 13 2011 at 04:20:21

Can people who no longer have the problem and people who still have it check whether they have such messages in the console log?

Thanks,
Richard

There is definately a bug in iTunes 10.2, which came with the sw update.

I had to manually download and install iTunes 10.2 on all my user accounts on my iMac to get sync to work for my iPhone 3GS and my two sons iPod Touch 4's.

It simply would not sync what was bought on the device to my mac. It looks as if it did it OK, but if never appeared in the list of apps or in the Mobile Application folder. And I could click transfer apps from device and it would try again with the same apps. No warnings or error messages it just did not work.

Re-install worked but you have to do it on all accounts. Come on Apple, start testing your releases.

The new "Preparing to sync" phase (with slow progress bar) during photo sync in iTunes 10.2 is only a one-time scan of your whole photo library. You must let it complete, and then subsequent syncs won't do this. (Although if you add photos in subsequent syncs, iTunes will scan those too, but only those, so it will be fast.)

You are incorrect.
I have let it finish every time and it still does it again next time I sync.
Which is what other people are also reporting.
Please read before posting incorrect facts.

I have this problem with my iPad and iPod touch. Interestingly enough, I do not have the problem with my iPod nano -- which syncs just as fast as it always did.

My experience is the same as everyone else, in the fifth stage, it crawls along, with all four cores on my Mac Pro cooking at 100 percent. The sync succeeds, but it takes about 2 hours.

Ken
