Setting up Gmail POP???? issues

Ok so i have a G5 with leopard and i have 2 of my gmail accounts set up fine since it seems the newer mail has the auto set up where you just enter you email address name and password and it sets it up. Nice easy breezy. I have a G4 ibook with 10.3.9 and i am trying to access one of my Gmail accounts and i cant get it to work if i go to preferences and add account i set the settings of my new account to the settings of my other mail settings for that same gmail account and when i click get mail on the panther computer its say connecting to pop.gmail.com and then says offline or some crap. I used the ping app and tested the pop.gmail.com server and it worked fine?

Any ideas

Mac OS X (10.4.11), G4 MDD 1.25 DP, G5 dual 2.3, Ibook G4 1.25

You may have to check into the Google groups POP and IMAP discussions forums
to see what kinds of issues and answers, relevant to matching your situation, apply.

The older discussion site section there is archived, linked here:
http://groups.google.com/group/Gmail-Help-POP-and-IMAP-en/topics

Newer access to user information, including sub-title to POP/IMAP support info:

{I've not set either of my current e-addresses to use a client email application;
& have never used ISP-provided email services. And don't download email.}

There are a few close answers among their threads I've read. Also their page
on how to set-up whichever applicable (POP or IMAP) may be helpful. There's
a chance things could've changed, in how Panther settings need to be applied.

If the older Mail app in Panther 10.3.9 is too old for Gmail's POP or IMAP, you
may have to look into later versions (still vintage) that may still work in 10.3.9
from such sources as Thunderbird, and other free email client software, online.

Good luck & happy computing! 🙂
