Any word yet on how many mega pixels the rear camera has?

I hear people saying, they wouldn't want to hold it up to take pictures because it is too big. A photo just takes a couple of seconds to take. And yet, no one is saying that video is a crazy thing to do on this and with video you would have to hold it up a lot longer.

I find it also strange that the video they show being editing on the iPad is a beach shot ...like I'm going to carry the iPad 2 into the water with me? I'm sorry, I didn't see them promote their waterproof case.

If anything, the iPad would be better suited for photos instead of video. I agree with you a 5MP camera should have been used on the rear side.

I think that you missed the point about video. It is not so that you can carry the iPad around and take videos of your vacation, or your kids playing in your backyard on their new swingset. The video cameras are for FaceTime, basically video telephone calls. That is the sole and primary focus. Anything beyond that is incidental.

As for the videos of vacations at the beach, etc. Those are probably uploaded to the iPad through the camera interface accessory. So the iPad gives you a portable iMovie that lets you upload camera still shots, video clips and combine them in the available themes, throw in your favorite music rips and create vacation videos, or archeological dig videos, or whatever, on the fly.

First, my comments are not about the front facing "FaceTime" camera.

I am talking about the back side camera. Why is it there? Not for still photos because it isn't even 1 megapixel. For shooting video? It seems a bit heavy and not ergonomic enough to hold for very long. David, you comments even admit that you will likely want to use another video camera device for taking video (as well as photos), and yet Apple didn't provide a built in firewire or USB port on the device to import anything off my miniDV camcorder.
