Jun 9, 2011 10:44 AM in response to Oblideeby Brad DerManouelian,The "solution" of authorizing the computer does NOT work for me because this is my SIXTH computer that I use and am only allowed to authorize FIVE. So in other words, I get punished for buying too many computers from Apple?

Jun 9, 2011 10:55 AM in response to Brad DerManouelianby Diane Wordsmith,So...you currently have five total computers authorized that you are actually using? We're talking computers...not devices. And if you authorized a machine that you no longer have or no longer use, you can deauthorize an individual machine still in your possession. Or with a max of five you can deauthorize all and start over.

Jun 9, 2011 12:10 PM in response to Diane Wordsmithby Brad DerManouelian,Yes. I actively use six computers. I also have 2 old ones I don't use any more which I've deauthorized that are waiting to be donated to my local record shop and one old one I'm keeping as a backup if anything happens the one of the others. Unusual, probably. Punishable? I don't think so.

Jun 9, 2011 12:46 PM in response to franpanxopby Peter97,No luck. I deauthorized the computer from an administrator account, and then reauthorized it, but the non-administrator account still gets hung up. The only way I can get iTunes to work on that account is by making it an admin account (something I don't want to do).

Jun 30, 2011 9:35 AM in response to Oblideeby dr.eszes,I had the same problem, and could not try the authorization thing, because the pop-up window never disappeared. I tried to update the software using apple software update, but I got an error message: "The Apple Software update server could not be found. Check your Internet settings and try again."
I searched for a solution for that problem an found this thread: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/1706299?start=0&tstart=0
Nestor5's advise worked for me:
"
Can you go to your Internet Explorer Properties and under Connection settings & the LAN setting below- make sure Proxy is OFF.
I unchecked the Proxy (which I have as activated for logging into my office network) and the Apple Software updater started working. Woohoo !
Hope this works for you."
I am running XP.
Hope this helps to you as well.

Jul 18, 2011 10:55 AM in response to onestepawayby Craigfunkulus,Thanks onestepaway! This problem has plagued my macbook for a good two months, and today it eventually crashed itunes. It's now fixed, no more copy/pasting artists, albums and song titles! iTunes is useful again. Yay!
