MAC MINI Proview LCD TV. No VGA at OS load

I have a Proview RX-276 model 2600 LCD HDTV. I hook it up to my new MAC MINI using the supplied DVI to VGA Adapter. The system boots to the initial MAC screen (Grey with the apple.) Then I see a flicker of "Starting MAC OS " and the screen goes blue with VGA 0Hz. Yet I can boot fine to a crappy old CRT monitor. Once I boot to the old monitor I can then swap the VGA cable over to the LCD TV.
The Proview will AutoSync and it displays just fine. The TV does not have DVI. So .... I bought a DVI to HDMI adapter and the system will boot to the HDMI fine but we only have 3 resolutions.
MAC support tells me that Proview is not on the compatible list so we went through some basic resets and adjustments with no results. Any suggestions from folks with similar experience would be helpful. I already tried SwitchResX and ConfigDisplayX with no results. I am new to MAC. I must admit am still green at this stuff.....
