Ipod will not register and will not sync.

I've had this ipod nano (2nd gen) for almost 4 years and never had a problem with it until now. iTunes recognizes my device and everything but when I go to sync it, the option to sync (from the file tab) is greyed out and I can't click it. All the songs are checked in my library and it still won't do it. Then I read something about the summary tab which I can't get to because it is saying I never registered my ipod (I could have sworn I did though). So I went to register it and I filled out all the fields and it keeps saying "you must complete the entire form". I'm not an idiot, I looked over this thing for like 15 minutes now and EVERY field is filled out and everything is checked. I've tried resetting my ipod, my computer, I have the most recent updated version of itunes. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks.

Ditto on the unable to register device problem. (iPod nano 6g, just bought today.)

One difference from original poster; I AM an idiot (not sure that that has any relevance to this issue though.)

Any assistance greatly appreciated.

This is happening to me with a new iPod Nano & iTunes latest. My guess is a short term Apple registration glitch. I hit 'cancel' and it seemed to let me through anyway!

Yup! I was able to update the OS on the Nano (to 1.1) but when I try to register the device, the form insists it's not filled in completely. And, as others have mentioned, it is!

I'm guessing this is a bug in the online form or backend validation, Apple will hopefully fix shortly.

Lol... I swear I had to go over the form like 10 times, I started thinking I was crazy or something.

Anyway, glad to know that I'm not the only one experiencing this problem, hopefully apple will fix this soon because it is driving me crazy.

I had same problem - you can register through the Apple website rather than through iTunes.... very frustrating!

I did that too but it still wants me to register through iTunes... I hate technology sometimes.

Same here, with a brand new Shuffle.

I think the problem is that iTunes is not automatically obtaining the iPod's serial number (at least it appears blank in the registration form), and as such
the registration is failing.

Same here.
Registering brand new iPod Nano today on updated iTunes software. Says "you must complete the entire form". The only part missing, as far as I can see, is the serial number, but there's no box to enter it in anyway!
Apple - anyone listening???

I have a brand new, just out of the box Macbook Air (13") and a new Shuffle. Same problem.

Running 10.6.5 (iTunes 10.0.1).

Doing the updates now, will see if it still happens afterwords.

Hey, I had to throw in my own experience.

I thought something might be wrong with my nano 8gb 6g, as I coudln't register it 2 days ago and the battery life was terrible. Just got home after exchanging for a 16gb model, and still won't register! The serial number box is empty with no input option so hopefully this get's taken care of. I checked to make sure my itunes was up to date and it's 10.2.1, so it should be...
