Why is AirPrint only available to HP printers??

I recently purchased a wi-fi enabled Brother printer that has functionality not offered by similar HP products. I assumed that the built in operations of AirPrint would allow me to print off the odd PDF, email, photo but I was wrong. I downloaded the Brother print software and and found it very limited as it only applies to photos. I cannot just view a pdf webpage and print directly from that page.

When creating basic functionality like printing why would apple limit the market to just include HP printers? Corporate partnerships like this are not in the best interest of the consumer.

Run this application one time and it will allow you to print from any iOS device to ANY printer that you can share with your computer.

READ THE INSTRUCTIONS: Note that the printer must be SHAREABLE by your computer, not necessarily directly connected to your computer via USB. I have successfully printed from my iPhone to printers connected to a Time Capsule, as well as to computers. Note that the COMPUTER must be ON for any sharing to work using this method.

*AirPrint was open to every printer manufacturer, only HP decided to adopt it. Contact Brother and ask them why they did not.*

Different from other printer manufacturers, HP got off their duffs and adopted AirPrint. Kodak can adopt AirPrint as with any other printer manufacturer - as HP already has. Apple hasn't limited this to HP only and Kodak certainly was not excluded. Ask Kodak why they haven't incorporated AirPrint yet which was available to Kodak at the same time it was made available to HP and as is available to Kodak now.

you're all wrong as HP hasn't even adopted it. only a small handful of their lame home printers support it. try running a business or school and only have lousy ink jet printers that can print from an iPad without some middle software trickery.

one option is to bite the bullet and get "print n share" from the app store and an iDisk account. any program that says it can print direct from an app is full of it. print n share could, but once apple found out the feature was gone!

you have to save the file to iDisk, then go to "print n share", browse to your iDisk account, pull up the document you want to print and then you can print.

Thank You, Thank You, John! I downloaded the Airprint Activator that you suggested and it works like a charm! A tad slow, but DOES work! I was somewhat regretting my recent iPad purchase thinking i would have to buy another printer just for the iPad but you saved the day!

I have a Macbook Pro, a Canon MP620 printer, and an iPad2.

Many thanks for the suggestion/help!
