Can't resume download, but have the .download file

Hi, I'm using Safari 5.0.2 on OSX 10.6.4. I was in the process of downloading a rather big file, around 1GB, from Safari, yesterday. I have the .download file in my Downloads stack and it shows the progress of the download (the blue bar is halfway). However, when I open it in Safari, it doesn't resume download. I'm assuming that this is not a problem with the download location (it's MacTeX, so the mirrors are stable and the file is still going to be there). I have the .download and the .plist file. Is there any way I can resume the download?

Hi,

You need to update Safari to 5.0.3 and Mac OS X to v10.6.6.

Click your Apple menu (top left in your screen) then click Software Update.

Check your startup disk to make sure there's enough free space to download files to.

Right or control click the MacintoshHD icon. Click Get Info. In the Get Info window you will see Capacity and Available. Make sure you always have a minimum of 15% free disk space.

Restart your Mac then resume the download.

Would you know what to do if the file wont resume downloading? I cleared the downloading history before I realized it had not downloaded and am not sure where the download is from. Is there a way to delete it?

When I try to delete, it says: The item “IrregularPastTenseVerbscloze.doc.download” can’t be moved to the Trash because it can’t be deleted.
