Safari can't get to www.yahoo.com

Running 10.4.11 with Safari 4.1.3
I am unable to get to www.yahoo.com when in Safari
I can get to ru.yahoo.com
I checked DNS and there is nothing there, I also tried OpenDNS and still same issue.
I also checked /Library/Internet-plugins and ~/Library/Internet-plugins (nothing there, not any more)
I also ran disk permissions repair.
I checked the private/etc/hosts file and everything seems ok there.

I can also get to www.yahoo.com with FireFox (on the same machine)

So what am I missing?

Cheers

Sorry about that!
Yeap tried it, nada. I trashed the whole ~/Library/Safari/ (stuff inside)

I also created a new account and logged in under that, Still does not work!
I wanted to rule out the User/Library folder content.

I am really stumped. If FireFox could not get to the same site, I would say it was a DNS issue or such but I don't understand why just this one specific URL ( http://www.yahoo.com)

I really want to figure out what this issue is.
Cheers

Good idea, already did it.
Disk was fine 🙂

I really do not want to reinstall to resolve this issue. I am very curious to know what is causing it. Mind you that its just one site. If this is the case there is something, someplace, which is telling Safari not to load or not to load completely www.yahoo.com

I left the computer sitting there for 10 minutes trying to load the site and it finally came up but it was mis-formated.

UPDATE:

So here is the update.
Unfortunately I am new to this (my) network and my usual policy is to blame myself first.
I went and tried accessing www.yahoo.com from other Macs and its amazing. No one can access www.yahoo.com from their Safari browser but from Firefox it is ok. Please note that these are all default settings.

Does anyone one know the difference between how Safari and FireFox access the sites?
I don't think its DNS because I am using the same DNS and no Proxy for both browsers. The only thing I can think of is the network firewall blocking Safari; but only form getting to Yahoo.com. I don't think you can deliberately set this rule.

Anyone know how Safari works?

Hi Klaus1
No. I am using www.yahoo.com out of US.
I never thought there was anything wrong with the site, I was very sure that it was either my client or my network; I started with the client but it seems to have turned out to be the network.

Like I said it was Safari vs FireFox. I don't think yahoo.com changed something that would have prevented anyone with Safari from accessing yahoo.com on March 9th 2011, I am sure we would have heard more about it.

Cheers
