Q: new macbook pro 2011 weak and dropping wireless connection

Just looked throught this part of the forum and found out there are a lot of people out there which seem to have the same problem as me.

I purchased a new modell 2011 MBP on the very first day from our apple store.
At home, sitting directly beside the wireless router I didn´t noticed anything wrong.
I have got beside of the Mac OS a bootcamp Prt. with Windows 7 on it and everythign works fine so far.

Five days after purchased I started traveling on business and at present we are for some weeks in Melbourne. Were having a wireless connection in our appartement and here I have got massiv problems with my connection.

We are having altogether four windows mashines with us, my IPad, my Iphone, another HTC smartphone, and my new Macbook.

All the other devices connecting to our room wireless without problems. The net strengh is not fantastic but the other devices bringing it up to four bars on the windows wireless symbol in the task bar. None of the other computers where ever loosing the connection.

Only my macbook can not make it over three bars and its going on and off. Donwloads fail freuquently because the conection is interrupted more than one times..
In my opinion this problem is even worse on the Windows OS and a bit better but far away from beeing good and acpetable on the Mac Os.
I hope its only a driver issue and there is no hardware problem with the new mashine. Other than this I love the new notebook and I am very satisfied with its performance.

Needed a moment to find my thread...the new structure...if there is any at all left is not very comfy to find your way around her in the support forum, I find....

 

News from my side....

Back home in Bavaria, back in our 32 MB Net. MacBook does not drop connection not on Bootcamp not on Mac OS Becuase of the strong link. if you look on the wireless symbol everything looks fine.

BUT

- Doing the ping test shows same horrible result like everywhere else before. Ping is going up and down, shows tomeouts.

-Downloads are very very slow considering our net speed.

-Streaming absolute NOT possible.

 

My old Fujitsu T4215 and all the other Wndows Mashines my husband uses in our net are working without any kind of problems...but we know this already, don't we????

 

I was visiting our local Apple supplier yesterday, with the paperworks about the work which was done on my MacBook in Melbourne, change of Networkcars, wihtout any change to the better.

 

Her suggested to call apple and tell them to change the logiboard next and so I did!!!! On Monday I will bring my MacBook to the apple store. Than it gets send in and I have to live ten days wihtout it.... fantastic....

 

Will keep your informed if it helps....I have got my doubts BUT what wcan we do...

    Installed Windows 7 in bootcamp, ping times are normal.

    So it's probably a driver issue in Mac OS X.

    300Mbps is the maximum theoretical transfer speed over 802.11n.  In actual practice you'll never see that speed -- best case you could probably expect half that, tops.

     

    That said, I routinely see actual transfer speeds of ~100Mbps between my AirPort Extreme Base Station and my 2011 MacBook Pro...and I have the same ping issues that everyone else seems to be having.  I've very pleased with 100Mbps over wireless -- that's better than what you can achieve with a 10/100 wired Ethernet connection!

    I have also Problems with my wireless connection. My Macbook Pro 15" Early 2011 and my Fritzbox 7290 are only about 4 meters from each other. Ping times are very bad.

     

    My MBP lost it´s connection if i bring it to sleep - after that i have no connection and only an REBOOT Helps!

    I tried everything: other channels, other places, SMS + PRAM Resett - but nothing helps...

     

    So you guys here do u think it´s REALLY Software Problems OR it´s Hardware Problems?

    I asked because my MBP is about 5 Days OLD - and at the moment maybe it´s better to Replace it with an new one???

    It works great for me on my 5GHz N-only network.  never a drop-out or loss of signal that I'm aware of.

    Are you on Win 7 64 bit or on 32 bit, my Win 7 64 bit does not connect most of the time !

    Maybe you are having a different issue if it doesn't even want to connect?

    Time to replace your router and/or wireless access point maybe.

    My old G based Linksys had all sorts of issues with newer wireless cards.

    It would drop connections spontaneously and sometimes refuse to assign IPs until rebooted.

    Good point.  If, while transferring a file from one of my AirPort Disks, I ping my AEBS, I get pings between 1-3ms.  I also haven't experienced any connection drop and the only issue I've noticed is also just the ping when otherwise idle.  Maybe it is indeed a power saving issue.

    Hmm, I just started a video stream in the background and let the ping run.

    It does indead result in 1-3ms ping times, that's kind of weird.

    I am actually using RDP (Windows Servers) not SSH.

    When I have the stream running in the background it is snapier, but not as snappy as it should be.

    i have noticed something similar to dimaxp and Tuskaa above.

     

    I am pinging my time capsule from within a terminal window, and observing over time the different ping latency. Any time the MBP is doing a backup onto the time capsule, i.e when the Time Machine Backups disc is visible of the desktop and data is streaming to it, the ping time drops to between 1ms & 3ms. When the backup is finished and the disc icon goes away from the desktop the latency immediately returns to an average of about 150ms with standard deviation of about 70ms.

    I have been so disappointed with my wireless situation.  After being a PC guy, I thought I would take the plunge into the Mac world. 

     

    As soon as I introduced the Mac to my network, things went to ****; dropped connections, our 2 iPads constantly lost connections, as well as our other PCs.

     

    I did some digging around and found the AT&T DSL (which we use) forum and came upon this thread.

    I followed the advice on page 8 and bridged my 2Wire modem/router and connected a new Netgear N300 router.

    I'm having the exact same problems. I'm not even sure if the MBP stays online long enough to finish this comment.

    I would have thought this would be a reasonable easy fix (an update for example) and I'm pretty disapointed with Apples response.

     

    What a you guys/girls using to do your ping test?
