Picture of flashing world on screen help please

Hi i posted a question about my mac today where when i started it up the was a flashing question mark on the screen,eventually after a few tries it would boot up,i wanted to know how to repair it and someone said go into startup disk control and restart, i did this but now when i turn the computer on i ghet a white screen and a flashing grey globe(world ) on the screen and it will not go and when i knock it off and try again it still comes on, has anyone got any help Cheers

Hi skinnydog1973

Insert the OS X DVD that came with your computer and once again restart holding the Option/alt key.

Then startup into your OS X DVD and go up on the menu bar and select Disk Utilities and try to run Repair Disk on your Macintosh HD as described in the following link.

If Disk Utility fails to see or repair your Macintosh HD, then run the Apple Hardware Test from your OS X DVD as per the next link.
