iPhone 4 Bluetooth won't connect to MacBook Air 11"

As the title says, I have tried pairing my MacBook Air 11" to my iPhone 4. The MacBook sees the iPhone right away, produces a passcode, but that's where it ends.

The iPhone's Bluetooth is ON, as it connects to my car every day.

After doing searches here for a definitive answer to this problem, I can't seem to find one.

Any suggestions why my iPhone 4 can't connect via Bluetooth to my MBA?

You are trying to connect your iPhone to your MacBook Air for what?

Unless you have a tethering plan and you are trying to connect your iPhone via bluetooth for tethering with your MacBook Air, there is nothing else the iPhone supports via a bluetooth connection with a computer.

Fine, if you have a tethering plan with your provider the iPhone will connect with their MacBook Air.

There is no assumption. Your carrier supports tethering with the iPhone and you have a tethering plan with your carrier or your carrier doesn't and/or you don't have a tethering plan. If your carrier does and you have a tethering plan, refer to the iPhone's user guide.

Thank you for your replies, late as I am to respond.

I was not aware that the only reason to connect the MacBook and the iPhone4 was for tethering. If that's the case, I suppose I have no reason to connect since I don't need that function.

I thought that I might be able to export vcards to my iPhone to load into my car. It seems the iPhone4, the last time I tried vcards, didn't/wouldn't export the vcards into my car's telephone system. I'll have to look into this again.

So how does one go about getting the Apple address book entries into the car's telephone system? My iPhone 3GS did this without problems.

How about tethering to send photos from the iPhone to the Mac Air. Just tried and failed. It's a pain to have to go get a cable every time. Whussup with that? Makes no sense why it won't do it

Here's a good reason that's not for internet tethering...Using the Keynote Remote app via bluetooth!! My iphone won't connect to my MacBook just to do that.

Good reason or not, it's not a supported feature of iOS.

Why are we digging up a one plus year old thread? Obviously you've figured out search... so you should be able to read the results that display to see the available and supported bluetooth profiles for iOS.
