My ATV2 had been working great until I installed 4.3 today. Now every couple of second there is a very annoying flicker on the screen. I have a 1080i TV. Any suggestions? Any way to go back to 4.2?
Sony HDMI - DVI, worked fine with last update now it is broken again with the flicker.
I have half dozen HDMI devices that work flawlessly on this TV, if Apple can not or will not support this simple function I am very disappointed in them.
This is an issue with Apple TV not out television sets.
Also have a flickering issue. TV is a CRT HDTV Samsung TXP2670W 1080i with DVI input. ATV2 reports TV as being 480p display and can't change the output.
I also get the flicker problem with the new update. My TV is a Toshiba 34HFX83, which has a DVI input.
When the Apple TV 2 came out, I was having the "wobbly picture" problem. Then with the 4.1.1 update, the wobbles disappeared but the Apple TV's output was stuck at 480p. Now with the new update, it's still outputting at 480p and I also get the flickering as an extra bonus.
My TV set can only output at 540p and 1080i, but it definitely
can receive a 720p input without problem. It just internally converts it to 1080i before displaying. I have tested this with several upconverting DVD players as well as my cable box, none of which cause any problems when set to output at 720p. The TV set takes the 720p signal it receives and converts it to 1080i flawlessly. The Apple TV 2 is the only device which has given me problems in that regard.
Come on Apple TV engineers, make my day! There's no reason why the Apple TV 2 shouldn't be able to output at 720p to my television set, with perfect picture quality (no wobbles or flickering). All other devices can do it...
Like may others, the new HDMI output option is stuck on "Auto" for me.
Just out of curiosity, for those who can get it to work, what does that new setting do when not set to Auto? Does it allow you to switch resolutions between 480p and 720p, or does it do something else altogether?
I am also getting a flicker with Sony Wega 42" (KE-42TS2) connected using a DVI-HDMI cable. I also cannot change the HDMI Output setting as it seems stuck on "Auto". Flickering makes this Apple TV unusable.
I'm a little confused by all these posts about using the ATV2 with 480p and 1080i TVs. Officially, the ATV2 only supports 720p output and if it worked before at 1080i or even 480p it may have just been a fluke.
No. It can "officially" output 720p or 480p if 720p isn't available. You can also use it with a 1080i TV if you have a scaling TV or receiver (outputting 720p scaled to 1080i).
My TV may be native 1080i but it will accept 720p or 1080i or 480p or 480i. The TV makes the conversion. Apple TV should just output a 720p or 480p signal and the TV will handle the feed (as it does with my Blu-Ray player and TiVo HD).
Same problem here. I spoke with Apple Support last night. They had me reset/restore several times and I still have the flicker. My HDMI option is stuck on Auto and the screen goes completely blank if I click to change it. I guess a new update is our only hope.
Same here. Sony kdf-60xbr950 which is native 720p.
ATV2 is stuck at 480p (full screen so there are black bars on the side) and there is a lot of flicker. The HDMI setting is set to AUTO and when I select that menu item the screen goes blank and I can't seem to choose any other setting.
I've already been told by the Apple store I can return it for a full refund even though I've had the ATV2 well outside the 14 day return period and I'll probably end up doing that, however, I'd really like to actually have it work.
I guess I should mention I've connect a Panasonic BluRay player, a Mac mini, XBOX 360, and a PS3 all to this HDTV with the same input and they all worked fine. I do have a DVI to HDMI adapter installed on the back of the TV as it shipped with a DVI port but it supports HDCP over DVI so that wasn't an issue with any previous HDMI device.
