Q: 4.3 Flicker Problem

My ATV2 had been working great until I installed 4.3 today. Now every couple of second there is a very annoying flicker on the screen. I have a 1080i TV. Any suggestions? Any way to go back to 4.2?

Mac mini, Mac OS X (10.5.6)

Have to wonder why there is a digital audio port on the Apple tv since HDMI is suppose to handle both.

Because many people don't have an HDMI equipped receiver, and connect the AppleTV directly to the TV then run optical to their surround set up.

I have hope Apple will fix it.
I was told by Apple it would work with my old Tv when I got the Atv 2.
All I had to do was get the HDMI TO DVI plus the optical cable.(which it's there in the Atv 2 for a reason)
And they instructed me how to connect them.
And it did work as I was told .
This new update obviously CHANGED that comparability .
IF the HDMI adjustment is there for different options it means that Apple intended
For its customers to adjust according to their Tv.
My experience with Apple customer service has been great.
They also contacted me because they saw I posted here and they will look onto it.
That's why I believe they care and will try to solve this issue.

I truly and sincerely hope you are right. I love Apple and respect the brand. I hope they quickly do the right thing.

It is very important that you report as much detail to Apple as possible. I would include the exact model of the TV too.

Good Luck. We are all waiting for Apple to address, acknowledge, dismiss, whatever this issue. I hope they do the right thing, for me it will make or break my trust in the company.

I wanted to buy the iPad2 and a couple PCs with my taxes, but I am waiting to see how they handle this... Ball is in your court Apple.

If it were just HDMI to DVI, Apple might not give it a lot of effort, since that is not a supported configuration. But there are a few people with HDMI to HDMI connections reporting the same problem, and that will get Apple's attention. Hopefully, it will turn out to be the same problem, and whatever fix Apple comes up for the affected HDMI TVs will also work for the DVI ones.

    Fingers crossed...

If they don't resolve this (at least allow us to somehow uninstall the update) I am buying a Sony or Roku and will never buy another Apple product again.

You might want to consider whether you would be better off with a device that is actually intended to work with your TV, such as the Roku--although that is not an absolute guarantee; I was setting up a Roku for my brother,
and ran into a HDMI incompatibility with his HDMI receiver. On Roku's support forum, I found complaints of similar problems unresolved after over a year

After two days of not having Apple TV because of the update...guess what...my Sony 60WE610 is now dead. No picture at all. Almost wonder if this issue had anything to do with the TV going or not. Probably not, the TV is 7 years old. Anyway, good luck everybody. Hope Apple fixes the issue. As for me I hopefully won't have to worry about the flicker...picking up a new TV tomorrow.

Exact same problem here. Sony 34" CRT hooked up with a HDMI to DVI cable and was working fine before this update. Now it has this exact flickering problem.

I have a Sony WEGA HDTV (Model number KF-42WE610) that is suddenly having the flicker problem after I upgraded my apple tv 2g to IOS 4.3. It was working just fine with IOS 4.2.1. I have tried every thing from restoring the firmware several times to changing cables. No luck so far.

I hop Apple fixes this problem or at least lets users get back to an older version of the iOS that worked.

Happening to me too. Sony with DVI seems to be the problem. Happy if I could just drop back to last version. May have to buy a ROKU box.
