Q: Home Sharing drop out with Apple TV2

Just did the updates for i-tunes (10.2.1), ATV2 (4.2), and Ipad (4.3). And what I'm getting is when I stream from the computer using the ipad remote app, music starts then just stops. I go to ATV settings and turn airplay off then back on, then the music start again. Then goes out again. But if I just use the ATV, music, photos, YouTube, movies, etc.. everything works fine. It just when I stream. ATV show strong WI-FI signal. Never had any issues until I did the updates. Tried rebooting ATV, did a restart on the computer. NO GO. I'm thinking it's a home sharing issue but I don't really know. Has anyone else having any problems since the new updates? Or any ideas on what I should try. Any help would be great...
Thanks

I am having similar problems too. With the new update to AppleTV 2, it drops the homesharing with iTunes while playing music and/or movies from my iTunes library. Just stops in the middle of whatever is playing. Some of the time my iTunes library is listed in the "computers" list but there is not anything in the library. If I cycle homesharing off then on everything is back. Not a good work around. Fix it! I have two ATV2's one that has not been updated and it seems top be working fine. I just updated it let's wait and see.

I'm wondering how much of this issue is related to those of us who have multiple ATV2's.
I have two and both are updated with the latest updates and oddly only one appears to be suffering these problems.
Either way, restarting HS on either the ATV or iTunes doesn't fix it, I have to remote in from my laptop and restart iTunes. This is actually easier I suppose than constantly reentering my username and pass on the ATV.

It turns out that this did not solve my problem after all. I have yet to see my ATV2 drop in the middle of watching a film, but it has lost track of the library, necessitating an iTunes logout and login.

I have three. I don't know if one of them is acting up because it is in my brother's room. But my two other ATVs that were randomly dropping out have mysteriously started working? The one in the family room hasn't dropped out in 2 weeks and the one in my room successfully got through an entire movie (via Homesharing) and didn't drop out! I changed NOTHING! So I imagine this is only a temporary thing and will start dropping again soon...

Same problem as others, post software update. Apple TV2 just drops out (ethernet connection). Time for Apple to provide a solution. I just feel Apple has abandoned us. The support is not the same as it was.

You can test this solution. I am not sur that operation was stable in amont the Time.

1 You can restore you appleTv with your computer by iTunes.
2 you must restore or flush router and table routage
It seems that the routage table of your router may be corrupt
I have made a flush router by physical action ( reset physical like a new router)
    3 install you AppleTv
4 don t configure the wifi jump to network setting
    5 fix your adress IP
6 fix the awake setting to neveu
    7 configure your network wifi
    8 active your home sharing
9 don t shutdow Power off your appleTv

I too upgraded to all the latest software (iTunes 10.2.1, iOS 4.2 on my Apple TV2) and I am now experiencing drop-outs on home sharing. Mine is happening every 5 minutes or so. I also have been using wireless. This did not happen before the update! It must be a problem that Apple needs to fix or like another post, it’s a black paperweight!

I am new to iTv2, iPhone4 and mac pro laptop. I was always a windows fan until now. Vista drove me to Apple. I too was having problems as described in this forum but I was fortunate to find a way to solve the problem. I should mention that I had the same problem when streaming music from my iPhone to iTv2.
My gateway computer (Windows Vista - running iTunes) has a low power setting when there is no activity after 30 mins. By coincidence, my iTv2 would drop connection at 30mins. I changed my low power settings to something like 4hrs and now the 30mins drop from my iTv2 has disappeared.
    Coincidence?
    Hope this helps.

I' ve had this problem since buying ATV2 from Amazon 2 weeks ago with a slight variation. I use wireless N+ only. Streaming works fine, but once ATV goes into sleep mode, the next time I turn it on it won't see the home sharing computer. Unplugging ATV power, waiting 10 seconds, and plugging it back in allows it to find home sharing, and I'm good to go as long as it doesn't drop into sleep mode again. I'm running Win 7 with Norton 360 and it's got nothing to do with the firewall. I've got a Belkin router F5D8235-4 and rebooting/wiping had no effect.

This is an Apple problem - they need to fix it.

My desktop is not using a low power setting. I've had Apple TV drop while I was using the computer and another person was watching Apple TV in the other room.

I am shocked this has not been patched yet. I am super chapped after just switching to Mac for my primary two months ago after being wooed to the darkside by my love affair with appletv1 then appletv dec2010-feb2011. Now I borderline regret dropping much higher coin for a mac mini than a quad core wintel. I still love my mac mini.

I'm not sure if this pinpoints it a little or not but I noticed one thing last night when this happened. I have 2 Apple TV2 and both were playing movies. Everything was fine (got over an hr into the movie) and someone asked me to look up something on the web. I have a Mac but use Firefox and after it was open for about 10 mins both Apple TVs dropped out. I quit out of Firefox, restarted iTunes and went back to watching my Apple TVs with no problems after that.

I later thought about it and realized that every time I had drop outs Firefox had either been in use or running in the dock. I'm going to try playing around with it more later to get more conclusive data.

So I have been following the threads here and I have a new set of complexities to contribute. I am running 2 ATV2's and 2 ATV1's on a very robust home network (small business class router, etc) in both wireless and wired set ups and since the last couple updates I have been experiencing dropouts on ALL units. ATV's stop recognizing one or other of my libraries with varying frequency. I am having problems with both libraries with ATV so it has to be Home Sharing since I have never had this problem with either library (large one or small one) in the past. This happens most frequently with the larger of the two libraries so it may be some sort of time out or caching issue. As a side note, I am REALLY unhappy with ATV2 and the lack of selectable resolutions. I have had to move the unit to a different TV rather than the one in the living room because of the DVI connection on my 50" HDCP compliant flat screen and reinstall my ATV1 which works great. Apple just lost 2 more ATV2 sales since I would have upgraded all my units if they didn't have this ridiculous resolution restriction. Pretty Stupid, Apple. Making a unit less expensive shouldn't make it CHEAP.
