Can iPad w/ Wi-Fi connect to a 4G Mobile Hotspot?

I know there is not yet an iPad with 4G capability but was wondering if by any chance, an iPad could connect to a 4G mobile hotspot via wi-fi... The reason I am asking is because I can create a secure unlimited 4G hotspot via my phone but there are data limits with a 3G mobile hotspot...
