Fade Out to White in Final Cut Pro (FCP)

Could someone please show me how to do add a fade-to-white transition in Final Cut Pro (FCP)? (Instead of black, which is default.) I want to be able to do both: 1) fade to white; 2) and white to the picture. An example clip:

*Click on the "Videos" tab.

This clip ends with "fade to white." I want to apply the same effect in the beginning (white to movie).

Thank you in advance.

Hi there,
you can either use a "dip to colour " dissolve (in the dissolve transitions folder) and change the defaut black to white by double clicking on the dissolve icon in the timeline and changing the dissolve parameters there.
or insert a slug of color (found under the Matte pulldown menu , bottom right in your viewer) and then do a mix as normal.
cheers

Effects > Video Transitions > Dissolve> Dip to Color Dissolve ... add it at the start and end

Double click the transition at the start (the Fade In) to open it in the Viewer and change the Color property to White. For extra credit you can change the Start value to 50%. Then double click the transition at the end (the Fade Out) to open it in the Viewer and again change the Color property to White. For extra credit change the End value to 50%.

Or another way would be to use Effects > Video Generators > Matte > Color Solid to create a "White" clip and then use that to dissolve into and out of your edit using a regular Cross Dissolve transition or by placing the Color Solid on another layer and the keyframing the opacity.

Hope it helps
Andy
