Newly purchased song not in library automatically

I purchased a song through the iTunes store and it downloaded just fine and shows up under purchased in iTunes. Now comes the interesting part. The song did not automatically add itself to my iTunes library to get synced with my iPod Touch. I had to manually find the song on the drive, found it in the iTunes Media folder, and added the song to the library.

Am I missing a setting that will automatically add all purchases to the library? Should this be automatic when you purchase something?

Items you purchase from the iTunes store are automatically added to you library. If the item was in your iTunes Purchased playlist, then it must have been in your library.

It is hard to explain what you observed, perhaps there is some other reason why the track did not sync.

Not sure why either. Didn't show up in the list in iTunes. Just under the purchase list. Next time I will try and shutdown iTunes ones the purchase is complete and restart it to see if it shows up.

That is a bug that has been reported here several times lately. It is not the correct functioning.

I am pretty sure that the song actually is in your library, but is not displaying correctly in Music view. Some folks have reported that a system restart corrected the problem.

Thanks for the information. Hopefully that can get it fixed in the next update. It was a bit unnerving, but nothing I couldn't overcome by just adding it manually.

I purchsed a season of Seseme Street and they show under Purchased in the store group but they do not show under TV Showes library.

Windows 7 PC

iPhone 4S, iOS 5
