iOS 4.3 and Monopoly app

After upgrading to iOS 4.3 on an iPhone 3GS the Monopoly app now displays text using a symbols font. This is the only issue I can see with the 4.3 upgrade. No other apps have been effected. The upgrade itself went normally with no error messages displayed.

I have tried deleting the app from the phone, rebooting the phone and then re-syncing. The app gets reinstalled but the font is still showing a mixture of symbols and punctuation characters. This makes the app unusable as there are quite a few menus, some of them with a lot of entries.

Dos anyone know how to completely remove the app and any configuration/preference files or settings from the iPhone?

When you delete a application from the phone it completely removes everything about the application. Your going to have to wait for a compatible update to come out.

Thanks for the replies folks. I will wait for the upgrade and see if it fixes the problem.

It could not have happened at a worst time as for the first time I was ahead and just built two hotels. I'd saved the game thinking I'd get back to it later in the day after the sync and upgrade.

🙂

Ronald, while I'm sorry to hear you have the problem to its reassuring that its not just me!

I have looked into trying to report it. The game is published by EA games but there is nothing on their support website about Monopoly. To contact them you need to register an account with them. I'm reluctant to do this as I get enough spam e-mail as it is.

I entered a review on the iTunes Store to say that the iOS 4.3 upgrade caused problems. To be honest I don't think they will do anything until the number of complaints reaches a certain level. After all the game only cost £1.19 which can't be a big revenue stream for EA.

Regards,

Andy

I'm having the same issue with both versions of Monopoly "world" and "classic". also other 4.3 issues include not being able to connect to my cellular network data service. Others are also reporting this. Hope Apple comes out with a fix soon. Usually, when this happens, how long does it take?

I'm not seeing any other issues other then the problem with Monopoly. I noticed that there were now quite a lot of messages on the iTunes Store about the font problem with Monopoly.

As to who provides a fix, thats an interesting question. If the error was due to coding in the application then the fix will have to come from the publishers/developers. If the problem was due to the a bug in iOS 4.3 then the fix will have to come from Apple. If we are lucky we may get a fix shortly from the developers, otherwise it might be a rather long wait for the next iOS release which may or may not fix the issue with Monopoly.

3rd party app developers are the ones who receive the BETA versions of firmware updates from Apple, perform testing and provide feedback to Apple, and this is also for 3rd party app developers to test the current version of their app with the firmware update and make any appropriate changes.

I venture to say this is not a system wide problem. This is a problem with the Monopoly app which is the app developer's responsibility. App developers have adequate time to test a BETA firmware version with the current version of their app and make any appropriate changes to their app that may be required with a firmware update.

A new release of the app came out today that fixes the problem, you just need to install the update from the app store. That's for the 'world' version of the game; I still have not seen an update for the 'classic' version of the game but I expect it will be out shortly.

As of today, there is an update to Monopoly Then and Now® edition, and it puts the menu back into English.

Still waiting for the Classic Monopoly® to get the upgrade, but I would guess if they did one, they will do the other quite soon.

Cheers, and may you always get Boardwalk and Park Place. 😉

Well, so far there's no update for classic Monopoly, and the game is entirely unplayable. I went ahead and registered at EA's site, but when I went to the "support" page, the choice of Monopoly platforms did not include iPhone or iPad, and you can't enter a complaint without choosing a platform.

Maybe they don't care. They've issued no statement and no updates yet.

If anybody has a good contact email address for EA customer service, I'd love to have it. I'll bet they don't even know, despite all the complaints on their ratings.

I would guess it won't be too much longer before EA makes the upgrade.

However, in the mean time, I've discovered that the upgrade they did for the "Here and Now" version corrects the menu, but the game has frozen several times for me, so apparently they need to get back to the drawing board to make it right
