What are some of the ways to plug a guitar into the iPad version of Garage Band? Will the iRig work? Does Apple sell a device to do this?

MacBook Pro 15", Mac OS X (10.6.6), Using Lion preview (10.7)

I have tried the Griffin Guitar Connector and it is a good clean audio connection. I love Apogee gear, and ordered the Apogee Jam as soon is it was available, but won't ship til April 1. Tried my Gio and one, via the camera connector, but it didn't work, ( didn't really expect it to), but the griffin imic did work through the camera input.

I bought the Sonoma but returned it as it was not compatible with iPhone 4. However, it sounded GREAT with my iPod touch. I don't think it is compatible with iPad.

Hey, I have the ONE and wondered if it works with the IPAD, I went to apogee site and used the live chat, they told me yes but it needs more than just a camera adapter. You also need a powered usb hub ( ipad does not supply enough power). also you need maestro software to change the selected input on ONE. all in all it works but they do not support the set up.

Light snake guitar USB cable works through the iPad USB camera connector but the monitor function does not play through the iPads internal speaker. Looking for a workaround. The Mac has the same issue and requires a midi composite setup hopefully the iPad can be setup to input from USB and output to it's internal speaker or external headphone jack.

@robman_84

sorry if I sound like a noob but what options are there for: "External USB soundcard (with mic pre-amp) via Camera Connection kit"?

My searches seem to all lead back to the Apogee Jam (which isn't available as of this date).

My sense is that everybody's on the Apogee bandwagon, or at least of the opinion that the best way in is through the 30-pin connector. Based on my experience recording with GB on my laptop, I'd have to agree with their reasoning. I started out plugging into the mic input but got better results using a TonePort UX2 and an M-Audio FireWire 410. The iRig gets the job done, in fact I think it's working better with GB than with AmpliTube, but I wouldn't go so far as to say it's perfect. It's just what I had on hand.
