iPad 16gb WiFi 1st Gen, iOS 4, iOS 4.3
I'm having this problem with an e3000 router. The VPN connects but I can not make a connection with the remote desktop app (this works fine on 3G). The iPhone configuration utility trick did not work for me and I'd rather not install custom firmware on the router. Are there any other fixes yet?
Thanks!
Steven
It is quite ignorant of Apple that the Error is with 4.3.2 still relevant.
But thank you Cosworth the startup command
echo 'default-asyncmap' >> /tmp/pptpd/options.pptpd
work´s pretty fine!
Interesting.
I have an IPad 1 with Version 4.3.1 --> VPN working
and
an IPad 2 with Version 4.3.2. --> VPN not working
Of course I will not update my IPad 1 with the latest firmware because I do not want to risk that it does not work anymore'
Can Apple help.
I've the same issue:
My configuration:
MACBOOK PRO SL 10.6.7
ROUTER : LINKSYS WAG200G
Server Side: pfsense PPTP VPN
I connect to my home wifi lan and can't connect to my company's vpn. In the consolle log I've found this message: PPTP received unexpected message type = 6699
BUT
If I connect my mac on the home router's lan : all fine ... my vpn connect perfectly.
Now my question is : the problem is router side (the wifi router side) or in the airport protocolo on my mac
Thanx

Thank you Cosworth and Syrex.
My VPN connection worked fine on my ipad2 up until ios4.3.2... And no other worse time to find out about it then when I needed... I wasted more time trying to figure out what was wrong and if something was broken on my home network... My laptop connected, so I know it was resident to ios...
I am really disappointed with all of the bugs with each update apple releases... Updates should fix rather than break software...
Thanks again for the solultion!
Same problem here.
I have 2 IPAD2s, running 4.3.1 and 4.3.2 respectively.
4.3.1 is working well with my pptp and l2tp VPNs. Using exactly the same setting (imported through profile), it connects on 4.3.2 but within minutes all traffic would halt.
VPN stays connected, just nothing goes through at all.
Nice job breaking things, Apple....
Clearly, Apple has no interest in fixing this problem. Does anyone know how to go back to 4.2.x iOS? Or, for that matter, any of the older iPhone releases that worked. 4.3 did nothing for me but cause problems.
hi
why my ipad 2 VPN disconnects alot and frequently? 😟
what can I do for that?
plz help.
Slinge, I tried your work around, no joy, I've got an iPad2 running 4.3.2. It seems to take longer and I though we had it but then nothing...
Cosworth, how do you edit the startup command for "echo 'default-asyncmap' >> /tmp/pptpd/options.pptpd" does the iPad need to be jailbroken or is there a untility to add this to the linux scripts?
Thanks anyone for some clarification!
Regards,
Chris

CJT, Cosworth's fix is for your router. Your router must support a startup command. You didn't specify what model router you had...
Some users here have replaced their router's OS with DD-WRT (it may actually be the cause of some of these issues -- it was for me). DD-WRT does support startup scripts, BTW. Startup script are otherwise pretty rare in factory OS's.
Kevin,
Thanks... darn, I was hoping to find a fix. I've got 2 iPad 1's and a new iPad 2 and get no VPN on any of them. This is the worst.
Rgs,
Chris
Still not working for me with 4.3.3
Command line "echo 'default-asyncmap' >> /tmp/pptpd/options.pptpd" didn't do any good to the connection. Looks like it didn't do anything at all.
I got DD_WRT on a WRT54GS Linksys router.
HMA tech support told me they're working on their servers... hope it's true.
There are over 17,000 views of this topic, does anyone at Apple look at this? Do they every provide support? HELLO APPLE, are you there? Or as the Really Annoying Orange says "Don't be an Apple!"
Just received my iPad2 this morning, you saved me some hours tonight. PPTP wouldn't working connecting to OpenSUSE 10.? box at the office (I control it). I can confirm that "Adding either 'nopcomp', 'noaccomp' or both to /etc/ppp/options.pptpd results in the connections working every time." does work.
This is not just limited to DD-WRT.
OpenSUSE 10.?
pptpd - v1.3.4
pppd - v2.4.5
Ugh, what has become of me - a Linux geek on an Apple forum?! Now I have to actually go and pay for some apps. The pain....
Thanks,
Conrad
