IOS 4.3 on iPhone 3G S

I have a general question regarding IOS 4.3. Playing around with my iPhone, I began to take notice of features that were described on the IOS page on Apple.com but were not seen on my phone. I ran multiple restores on my phone it's not even funny(15 Times). there is no Home Share, Noteworthy, Redesigned App Store and redesigned Keyboard. My question is that even though the iPhone 3GS is present as a device that is capable of using IOS 4.3, are there features that are no capable such as the iPhone 3G and iPod 2G.

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.6), iPad 16GB, iPhone 3GS 16GB, iPod touch 32GB

Home Sharing is set up in Settings -> iPod -> Home Sharing

I don't know what you mean by a "redesigned" App Store or keyboard. The updates that iOS 4.3 includes are listed here:

The App Store itself was updated a couple of weeks ago to now show “Installed” rather than the app’s dollar value, and then to display the message “You have already purchased this item. To download it again for free, select OK.” Those should display in the Updates page when you have updates available.

I don't know of any other changes to the App Store, and I haven't seen anything about changes to the keyboard in the release version of iOS 4.3. Not all items that were in the seed versions of iOS 4.3 were included in the release version so perhaps you're referring to something you read about earlier that was not included in the release.

The Noteworthy font replaces Chalkboard in the Notes app, and only there. That should also be available in Settings -> Notes.

Home Share is not even present in the iPod settings menu. it just shows shake, sound check,EQ, Volume limit, lyrics and podcast info and then Video and TV output very similar to what I found on my other IOS devices. For the fonts, it just shows helvetica and Marker felt. Both setting menus are not found under iPod or Notes. they are just gone. in terms of the App store and Keyboard, certain sources such as CNET, PC World had information regarding that the keyboard in IOS 4.3 does not show the letter while pushing it. it is just type and go. Evidence of this can be found in the iPad 2's mail guided tour. The sources also provided that the updates tab of the APP store is larger and is seen just like the iPad. The only reason I mention the iPad in this thread is that during Apple's iPad Event, tomorrow the iPad 2 will revive the exact same operating system with the exception of iMovie, Garage Band.

It sounds like you don't even have the iOS 4.3 update on that device. What version and build does it show if you go to Settings -> About?

BTW, don't go by what you see on an iPad to indicate what you should see on an iPhone. The keyboard behavior, for instance, is different from what you see on an iPhone or iPod touch, at least on the iPad 1.

Very strange. I've not seen anything reported about this being a broad problem on the 3GS. You might try restoring the iPhone and see if that makes a difference. Try as a new phone first, to make sure it's not something in the backup that is causing a problem; if it works as a new phone, you can do the restore again and use the backup.

I have an iPhone 3GS currently running iOS 4.1 that no longer has cell service. I still have the SIM card in the phone; and I'm using this as a 16gb iPod. Will I have any issues upgrading the phone to 4.3 and will I see any benefit upgrading?

My question is very basic. My iPhone 3GS won't upgrade to 4.3. when i try to upgrade from iTunes it says that 4.2.1 is the latest upgrade. What should i do?

What version of iTunes are you running? I had the opportunity to upgrade iTunes to 10.2.1 which allows integration with iOS 4.3.

Forgive what may be a dumb question on my part, but are you certain you have an iPhone 3GS and not a 3G? You can confirm your model here:

I am using an iPhone 3Gs bought January 2010 using the current OS version 4.3. My current iTunes Version is 10.2.1. My ipod Touch is the only product that has taken the heavy hit from IOS 4.3. My iPhone 3GS over the past five days i have been charging every 3 hours.

in terms of restoring. I have restored my iPhone using it as a new phone three times over the weekend and probably over five times for my ipod touch. my iPad is the only device running smoothly.

Tried to update my Iphone 3GS last night to 4.3 and it has not functioned correctly since. Phone was purchased in New Zealand but I am now in Germany on Vodaphone.de. Tried both Macs and eventually got it to reload but it started to fail almost immediately afterwards. Message from Apple during restore is to visit shop as it is not possible to connect. Had this a number of times but after switching Macs managed to get going again. Failed again as soon as I go back to my original Mac for apps and music. I hope Apple fix this quickly!!
