Most of the best tools for this are not going to be desktop apps. If you want a generic flow charting tool, Lucid Chart is great for several purposes. If you want purpose built org chart software, Pingboard is great.

With Pingboard, you can build, print & share any size org chart for free. Or you can pay monthly to keep it in sync with your other employee systems. It also comes with native iPhone and Android apps so you and your team can access the org chart from anywhere.

Here is an example of the type of org chart you can build with Pingboard:

I run Pingboard, so feel free to reach out.

I don't know about "best", but OmniGraffle has been a staple for many years:

There may be more sophisticated software through these search engines*:

Hi Fred,

I don't know if you've found a suitable piece of software, but Lucidchart is a relatively new cloud based tool that works on any platform, since it only needs the javascript in your browser, so it should be able to create an org chart for mac.

lucidchart.com

the chrome web store has a bunch of other free tools like this as well

Good Luck,

mayI add not mentioned crossplatformed tool ConceptDraw PRO with huge template galery for ERD, UML, ORM, flowcharts, etc. I’ve tried omnigraffle and conceptdraw, they both do a good job but conceptdraw seems to be more powerful. What i found interesting they provide their own office suite for mind mapping, project management and diagramming that works with ms products via xml.

In a combination with Conceptdraw Office this drawing tool can do much more than expected from the charting software, like live dashboards, visual reporting, interactive and smart mindmapping and infographics.

I don't there is any software that is designed specifically to draw org charts in Mac. However you can give our tool Creately a try which supports drawing org charts. Other than org charts you can draw flowcharts, mind maps and many other diagram types. Take a look at our org chart software page to see if you like the features.

Please note that the page talks mostly about our online version. But we have a desktop software that works on Mac as well.
