Jun 23, 2012 1:47 PM in response to jkbentby The Cook,Just to update you regarding the space bar not working on my MacBook Pro.
I took it to the Genius bar today. They had a look at the space bar and said don't worry, we will give you a new Mac.
Nice one Apple.

Apr 22, 2013 7:05 AM in response to Mark Ruttleby KJGfromCO,I discovered my space bar problem a week ago after o[ening my brand new MacBook air. I immediatley read this thread and decided to go to an Apple Store. I live in Fort Collins, CO and all the nearest stores are 1 to 1/12 hours away. I drove to the Broomfield one and went to the Genius bar as per several posts on here. I had a great guy to work with and he tried a number of different things and eventually with the go ahead from the manager, gave me a brand new one which does not have the spacebar problem.
If you live somewhere, where it is not possible to get to an Apple store, I would recommend sending it back and requesting a new one.
Thanks to everyone for your comments. They helped me make a decision and resolve my issue quickly.

May 24, 2013 1:13 PM in response to Mark Ruttleby AirPlant,Yes, impossible to type on MacBook Air if you use the spacebar. The spacebar is ALWAYS dead on right and left corners and bottom edge. Many times it is also dead further in towards the center of the key and near the top. Although it "clicks", this is deceiving because no space is entered. This is one of the worst defects I have encountered in a computer. From what I have read, this problem is very wide-spread. We are planning to return our MacBook. The positive side of Mac is better security and performance. The downside is exceedingly poor software selection and declining consumer trust. Our company was heavily invested in Apple Pro Video (Final Cut Studio), but this was dropped and replaced by a cheap home video product (Final Cut X). It seems now that Apple hardware problems (the keyboard) are also forcing us away.
P.S.: Why this forum starts with the oldest thread first, I can not understand?

Sep 8, 2015 7:07 PM in response to Mark Ruttleby JoA59,Here it is 2015 and the latest Macbook Air 13" has the same problem. It has driven me nuts. I had the keyboard replaced twice and the problem still exists (or they didn't really replace the keyboard.) I'm a bit afraid to try to bend the spacebar, as it appears to be plastic. I tried an 11" macbook and didn't have the problem on it. Also tried an older macbook air (3 years old) and had very little trouble getting the space bar to work correctly. On my macbook, hitting the space bar ANYWHERE along the bottom does not register. I have to hit it hard or near the top. Unfortunately, I usually hit it near the bottom corner.
